Linux@lemmy.ml•What are some bare minimum concepts beginner Linux users should understand?
4·2 months agoUnderstanding the proper way to install apps is the biggest one. Make it clear that .exe files are for Windows only.
I wouldn’t try to go further than that, I feel that’s the biggest thing a general user really needs to know.
That’s odd. I’ve used a variety of 8BitDo controllers on a few distros through the years with no issues. I don’t have specifically the Pro 2 though.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Is there any working wireless VR for LInux?English
5·4 months agoALVR is a thing for Quest (and maybe other?) headsets. I’ve been able to get it to “work”, but it was a pain and would constantly have random issues.
I ended up just dual booting windows for VR.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Gaming on Linux hasn't been great so far... | JayzTwoCents [27:59]English
49·4 months agoAs someone who games on Fedora as my main OS, we need to stop pretending that Linux gaming is all sunshine and rainbows.
Yes, fuck Windows, and it probably did fuck his boot loader, but it doesn’t invalidate his other poor experiences he had with the OS.
Hell, I don’t think that even that was necessarily an invalid experience just because it was caused by Windows. Dual booting is a thing people have to do, especially if they want to play the games that just don’t work on Linux. Even if you don’t like the games personally, they are huge and a lot of people want to play them. Even my main Linux group dual booted recently to play the BF6 beta.
Being elitist and calling people stupid because they had a bad experience will do nothing but hurt Linux gaming. Instead of calling JayzTwoCents stupid because he dual booted for a valid reason, explain alternatives that he could have done to prevent the issue. If we want to grow as a community, we need to provide actual helpful feedback, not by being toxic.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•What is the cheapest laptop with a dedicated gpu i should save up for?English
5·4 months agoI would plan on the 800 or so price range.
(Also unrelated, but since this is in the Linux gaming community I wanted to let you know the fortnite does not work on Linux due to the anti cheat.)
Best buy open box is probably the best place to look.

7·5 months agoIt’s more for people who look at the controller buttons while playing. I’ve had people use my controllers and get really confused when B is actually A and so on.

Games@lemmy.world•8BitDo Pro 3 Controller Announced with Swappable Buttons, Available for PreorderEnglish
2·5 months agoI can’t speak for this controller specifically, but all of the 8bitdo controllers I’ve had seem to been fairly easy to get into and repair.
Although it’s not as convient as the Pro 2, I wouldn’t say it’s not replaceable.

Games@lemmy.world•8BitDo Pro 3 Controller Announced with Swappable Buttons, Available for PreorderEnglish
9·5 months agoAs someone who switches between PC using an Xbox layout and a Switch, I like the idea of swappable buttons, assuming it doesn’t cause any issues physically with the controller in the long run.
