    Right?

    Who gives a flying fuck?

I guess the answer is apparently a shit ton of losers with no lives of their own.

I feel insulted that I’ve even been forced to be made aware of this over the last 48 hours.

It isn’t helpful to think of them as losers. Like the image says, no bread all circuses. Without making any inferences about these two people pictured, the media and public focus on their engagement is in the service of maintaining and strengthening the status quo power structures.

Resist the urge to dismiss this as crank conspiracy thinking. There is a system, even if it wasn’t designed and even if it isn’t organized. And the media is by and large a tool of that system.

“We should stop indulging in celebrity and start GIVING A FUCK!”

“Okay, what should we care about?”

<insert list of cataclysmic horrors for which nobody in the audience has any agency>

“Wow, thanks. Now I’m full of helpless anxiety. Anything I can do about any of this?”

“DO SOMETHING! DO SOMETHING! DO SOMETHING!”

“Well, this has been enervating as fuck. If you don’t mind, I’m going back to hide in my den and watch movies until the world ends.”

I really despise this type of argument. There’s plenty you can care about that isn’t billionaire pop stars or famines.

Theres so much optimistic shit these days and education has never been this accessible. Join a book club, environmental club, local community, hobby niche, care about different countries and regions. I barely find enough free time for all these activities.

There are literally a billion things you should care more about than a billionaires getting engaged. It’s frankly disgusting.

I think the key here is “we”. Collectively if people had a common understanding of what is going on in the world they would be appalled and demand more of our leaders (or get new ones)

Instead people vaguely know what is going on, through the biased lense of their news sources.

I think if you asked most Americans who Netanyahu is and what he is doing you’d get a blank stare. If you ask them what is up with tswift they would excitedly explain that she just got engaged and recently had a crazy expensive tour.

How any of this gets corrected is beyond me, and that’s exactly how the people in power want it.

I think if you asked most Americans who Netanyahu is and what he is doing you’d get a blank stare.

Idk about that. His name has been in national news for decades. Like, maybe somewhere behind Vladimir Putin and Kim Jung Un in terms of US visibility.

How any of this gets corrected is beyond me

Say what you will about the Trotskyists, but they looooved making newspapers. I don’t think there’s a shortage of modern Alt-Media, either. Not hard to get an earful of press about the state of the world. What’s much more tricky is coordinating actions, particularly at the local level. There is not, to my knowledge, a Houston-centric news organization that does a good job of organizing and orienting local people on municipal issues. But I’m a white atheist professional worker out in the suburbs, so its very possible I’m just out of touch with what more radical and well-connected folks in churches and labor unions are up to.

Yeah true, I guess I meant more before this recent uptick in memes/criticism. I don’t expect celebrity musicians to be paragons of virtue or fight every political battle for justice but I do expect… something? Like a little bit? Have a spine maybe?

I mean she can do whatever she wants, but that is the point right, she can do whatever she wants she is an unbelievably rich white lady who politicians and other powerful figures can’t touch without risking MASSIVE blowback in public opinion that money and distraction won’t be able to make go away.

People that idolize celebs are wild to me. Taylor wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire girl.

As I’ve gotten older my celebs are people that put tutorials on YouTube. Like oh shit, ishaan my favorite electrician just dropped a fire new video on neutrals and grounding on 3 phase. Or that one homesteader just dropped a short on how to grow bigger pumpkins, get the popcorn

I don’t wish all the best to any billionaire.

You’re a fundamentally failed human being if you allow yourself to hoard this much wealth. At least tech billionaires pretend to have some sort of ideal goal they’re working on but entertainer just be straight up pure narcissists.

    No bread , all circuses

I’ve been saying a variation for the past year or a bit longer “Circuses are cheap, bread is expensive”
That’s why we have so much entertaiment, but no housing.

Except the circuses AREN’T cheap anymore either, what with the likes of Ticketmaster/Live Nation making it so a concert ticket costs as much as a car and the NFL’s only goal being to maximize the profits of the team owners.

Just to use the examples directly related to the billionaire and multimillionaire depicted.

Yeah, you’re right. I’m talking more about the clown shows in the news and political systems. Although a netflix subscription or a phone plan is a lot cheaper than a mortgage, and the boomers love to say that the computers and internet are why we can’t have houses.

Watching this idiot lipsync after flying in to a concert you paid a month’s wage for is a fucking insult.

    1. Let people be happy about something. this is not helping anyone.

    2. if there is ONE person on the planet who would by popular vote be allowed to have a private jet, it’s TayTay.

    3. Gossip was and is a part of human nature, denying it makes no friends for your cause. Don’t call it bullshit, just because you don’t care.

If you want to DO ACTUAL GOOD:

put a story of palestinian/israleli couple on the fake front page.

Highlight the out of control Israel government with a story that shows protests in israel.

Be FOR something instead of AGAINST something.

No! People need to get their heads out of their ass and focus on what is important.

It is right and just to hate on people who only speak up when the topic is useless drivel. They should be ashamed of their inaction and their complacency is disgusting.

I think we’re at a point where we can all agree that having interests beyond what’s serious and exigent is healthy and reasonable. Now we need to get past the idea that not liking something that’s popular (like sports and entertainment) makes you better than people who do. It doesn’t make you better.

People who like Taylor and Travis and want them to do well are not automatically complacent in other areas of their lives. They don’t have their heads up their asses for this reason. They have nothing to be ashamed of, talking about topics that, in your opinion, are useless drivel. Especially here, on the internet.

My grievances come from the fact that there’s no counterweight. Posting this type of thing is not inherently bad, but it’s all these people ever post.

I agree, people can enjoy things I don’t enjoy! But by exclusively posting vapid content, they are diluting the content pool and drowning out what is important.

Your inaction is your admission of acceptance.

I really don’t think you’re being fair. I was in chanology in Clearwater, Arab Spring in Rabat, the second Penguin Revolution in Santiago de Chile, and countless major demonstrations in support of worker rights and LGBT community issues all over the world. When I come on the internet (as I’ve done since 1994), I don’t want to endlessly talk about politics with the normies here. I want to talk about normie topics like cooking, cats, sports, and Taylor Swift. I save my outrage for real world actions.

According to you, I’m practicing an attitude of acceptance with regard to the state of the world because that’s all you see and hear from me. What do you think that says about your worldview and your outlook on people?

It’s just disheartening, weird, and scary seeing everyone repost the same instagram post like little worker bees.

And personally, I don’t think these people are doing anything behind the scenes to push for change. I suppose I’m just cynical.

Everyone should really read ALL of this image. The headline obviously resonates with a ton of people, but there is a bigger message here that people need to engage with.

I don’t know if this is OC from the author or not, but this is genuinely brilliant.
