Secret Music 🎵 [they/them]
What secret music do I hear
Upon the drums of my ear
What great pleasure I feel
I come from nowhere and I shall return
Because of you people I will flee
I see my late identity burn

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Out of ten, how would you rate your ability to empathize with people with opposing viewpoints?English
2·3 days agoDepends on a few things, including the viewpoint in question.
And my patience at a particular time because I’m not 18 and just discovering the world anymore and a lot of shit is the same old shit, even if it’s had a ribbon tied around it.
Some things that I’m more or less out of patience with are bigotry, right wing conservative conformists and supremacists, and monotheism. But I’m open to discussing most other things.
I’d be more inclined to ‘meet in the middle’ politically if ‘politics’ were about say how taxes should be spent, and not about who should have more or less human rights than who.

Ask@piefed.social•What’s contributing most to the death of the open internet?English
1·3 days agoOk? This is actually now a different conversation because someone deciding that they don’t want to spend time with you or be in your company is not censorship, you fucking baby. No one owes you their attention or time. Or a ‘debate’ whenever you feel like it. And expecting, for example, trans people in a trans space to sit at the fucking table and sing kumbaya with people who think they are subhuman is just insane.
Also, who is the “they” that is censoring you? I’ve been on Facebook quite a lot over this last year and my feed is full of people talking about genocide. And feminist pages that don’t shy away from subjects like rape. In fact, here we are using these words right now, waiting for the man in black to come and make it disappear.
Unless you’re making a habit of going into spaces that specifically don’t want these topics and doing it anyway? In which case, you’re the asshole. Which would make you just like a maga that gets banned from a queer page for using slurs, then acts like their rights are being infringed because of it.

3·3 days agoWhether you like it or not, its censorship. Ppl with opposite political views silencing eachother creating echo chambers of only ppl who align with them politically.
Personally I don’t buy this one as a problem. Pre social media, anarchists weren’t sitting around a table sipping tea with nazis, alt people didn’t have to put up with fkn jocks making the same comments about dyed hair and piercings that grandpa has been making since 1976 daily, if you want to the club and spent your time insulting all the regulars and staff and owner, you’d get your ass kicked out to the curb by the bouncers.
I think the problem is a certain crowd acting like they should have the right to just barge into whatever spaces they want and say whatever they want without any consequences. Life was never like that. And just because you’re free to speak, doesn’t mean that everyone should be forced to listen whether they want to or not.
Sometimes people who believe in jewish space lazers just need to be treated like the deranged fucking clowns that they are and not be given a seat at the table. The world would probably be so much better if these people would go back to whatever fucking holes they crawled out of.
Edit: I’m also going to start assuming that people who think the internet used to be this place where bigots could run wild saying the N word are all 12 years old. Because forum sites pre social media were iron fisted.

1·4 days agoI think that not necessarily everything in life is a big buddhist style learning moment and sometimes we really do just dig our own holes. And I mean, there’s nothing to say that the person in this simplistic cartoon strip didn’t learn anything here. Maybe sometimes the lesson is just that if you touch the hot plate on a stove, you’ll get burnt.
Other bigger lessons in life probably look a bit different to this.

Ask@piefed.social•What keeps you going everyday?English
13·5 days agoI’ve barely lived my life and I’m around half way through. There’s still too much for me to do and see. And people for me meet, my people now that I’ve got a better handle on who I am.
And not even all big cliché things like travel and love and financial stability and shit. But there’s also still music to listen to, movies and series to watch, games to play, books and comics to read.
Also, as a Sonic the Hedgehog child and Philip K. Dick and punk rock teen, days like these light a fire in me. It’s probably morbid but it kinda feels like I was born for days like these, which gives a sense of purpose and darker reason to exist.

3·5 days agoNot any notable thing but I think I’m kind in daily life. Kind to the local hobos, to shop keepers, to random people I meet and chat with on the way, to animals. I don’t really have much of a real life social life at the moment but I don’t drive and walk everywhere, and meet all types on the road.
One more specific thing I can think of is the old dude in a wheelchair who goes to the local supermarket and buys cheap wine and gets shitfaced around the back almost daily. I often push him back home if I’m around at the time and he’s clearly not going to make it by himself. Once I came across him passed out in his wheelchair on the road, on his way home. This is basically every other day or week. Apparently the only other person that ever helps him is skater girl in the area, so plus one for the alt people I guess.

2·6 days agoThe person is your ‘self’ or your mind, the ground is your life, or experience thereof. The thing sticking out of the ground that needs investigating is the start of an addiction, or a negative life path, or a spiral of harmful thoughts and depression, or anything that stops your progress on the path of life and makes you start digging holes for yourself to get stuck in.
Finally one (hopefully) realises that their dug their own hole and sees the solution to get out.
Or something like that. I think that’s the gist of what I felt about this meme or cartoon strip or whatever. Thanks for the creative writing exercise lol.

2·6 days agoAh I definitely understand the “preaching to the choir” sentiment, particularly here on Lemmy. I think that’s also partly why I’m fucking with mainstream social media right now.
But I mean in that case, might as well not share any political content here. Personally I wasn’t sharing it here to preach to anyone here. I think that sharing content here is more for showing things to like minded people. Maybe a reminder sometimes. Or something for them to look up or share to their social media or whatever.
I could’ve been a little less defensive, so I apologize. The platform where I got this from is a shit show where certain people literally defend this shit. Need to remind myself that I don’t need to automatically fight when I’m here.

1·6 days agoI do not work with them nor am I associated with them in any way. I just shared this here and left more than enough details for people to verify for themselves if they still doubt the fact that religious right wingers tend to be scum with issues around children and with projecting their own actions and guilt onto others.
This isn’t some new groundbreaking revelation. That’s why the clutching at pearls over trans people was such a fucking joke. Because they’ve been turning a blind eye to kiddie fiddling priests and right wing politicians for decades now. And proved that christianity is a religion of conformity, not morality.
This is literally just more information for the people who have actually been awake at any point in their lives and aren’t just finding out today that right wingers are disproportionately involved in child abuse. So that they can know to keep children away from the man with the maga hat and tell their friends. So that the heat can be on the right target.
It’s why I’m being a bit hostile here. This to me isn’t really a conversation in good faith. It’s debating the validity of something that has been a problem for at least as long as I’ve been alive, almost four decades.

6·6 days agoYou could also go and check out the Reddit subs “not a drag queen” and “still not a drag queen” for documented cases going years back. You could just use your fucking memories of how far back the stories of priests diddling kids go, and how the USA south has a particular reputation for this. None if this is fucking new. Including the pedophile president that these fucking people all love.
Tired of ‘debating’ reality with debate bros that only have room in their heads for the last podcast they listened to.

1·6 days agothis kind of thing needs to be backed up with evidence
I don’t know about Instagram but going by their Facebook profile, you would have to be deliberately stupid to think that they’re just posting about random people being arrested.
There are 56 names on this list, as well as the individual articles about all of these individuals on this profile. Expecting someone to spoon feed you 56 different links, or more if you’re too much of a ‘skeptic’ to trust just one source for each of them, is a bit much. I’m sure you know how to use Google based on the information here.
And even if you don’t have a Facebook account and can’t see that content, and won’t make one, or any effort to see for yourself before declaring “both sides”, I’m sure that your Uncle Joe has a Facebook account.
And he sees this shit too, these pedo president worshipping pieces of shit are all over left wing and feminist pages letting everyone know clearly just what they think. They just don’t fucking care. Or they call it “fake news”.
So this isn’t for Uncle Joe, who would’ve voted for a turd fresh out of Donald Trump’s ass, with lips painted on, as long it gives him any excuse to use the N word and call trans people “predators” online. Feelings don’t care about facts for these fkn clowns.
This is for the people who aren’t ignorant, mouth breathing bigots, and who are capable of a little bit of their own initiative, in order to be armed with knowledge.

Ask@piefed.social•Would you rather be able to speak to animals or speak any human language you want?English
3·7 days agoOoh this is a fun question. I would definitely go for speaking to animals. Human languages can be learnt with study in the real world but speaking to animals on more than just a basic level is magical or super powers type shit.
I get visions of living in a cabin in the woods chatting with my bird and squirrel and fox friends. And developing an understanding with the local bear to watch each other’s backs.
Or raising armies to help with the uprising.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How crucial do you think it is to understanding "pop culture" stuff, in terms of forming friendships? (As in: Knowledge in Popular Movies, TV Shows, Video Games, Books, Songs, Music, Anime, etc...)English
4·7 days agoI think that it can help you find your people. If it’s something really mainstream like Breaking Bad or whatever, you might as say “I like icecream”. But when it gets to slightly more niche stuff that isn’t hogging 90% of the online conversation or airtime on the radio, I think you’re more likely to find people with similar interests or views or personalities to you.

Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•How New York City voted. It's transit riders vs drivers English
20·7 days agoWealth vs wages? Cars require a substantial amount to buy, and then a decent liveable paycheck that leaves you something to play with for fuel and upkeep. Public transport is something more affordable for wage slaves.

Yeah, Bruce Wayne is an eccentric rich guy in a city full of eccentric rich people up to their own shenanigans. And depending on the timeline or continuity, he doesn’t even run his own company most of the time, so wouldn’t necessarily be in the public eye all the time.
For Clark Kent, I’ve always loved the idea of certain key figures in the Daily Planet figuring it out themselves but keeping it to themselves. In the new movie, I very much got the impression that Perry White and Jimmy Olsen know. And IMO, ever since Lois figured it out herself in My Adventures with Superman, that’s the way it always should be from now and the versions where Superman keeps the secret for years and years aren’t the same now.
For me, the ones where it gets difficult to justify their secret identities remaining intact for long are characters like Static or Spider-Man that still go to school and live with their parents / guardians, and regularly slip away during trouble to regularly rescue their friends and family as their superhero selves.
