Switching back to Android with a OnePlus was pretty easy last year. Moved stuff and It even matched many of the installed apps. I’m all for making that even better
Honestly, this is the sort of thing hhat gives me more confidence in a product nowadays. If I’m not stuck with a product, and moving away is really easy, there’s less incentive for entshitification.
Sadly, with only 2 realistic players in the game, this barely makes a difference.
I Just pre-ordered the new Sailfish OS phone from Jolla - which is pretty much just Linux
Hopefully that (and some others) will bring some diversity…
Thinking about getting a linux phone/ phone with a degoogled ROM at some point in the future. Do you know if apps like Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet, or any other of those e-wallet apps would work?
Sailfish OS has some android compatibility thing, like WayDroid
But can’t tell how good it works until I can try in like half a yearAhhh… alright. Thanks!
I really want to get one of those but I’m worried about banking apps…do they have a workaround?
Some banking apps work. Some banks online banking can be used in browser. Other than that… Idk
Last week, the European Commission said that Apple and Google designed and implemented the new transfer system to comply with the Digital Markets Act in the European Union, but it is not a Europe-only feature. The new setting is available worldwide in the iOS 26.3 beta, and it can be found under Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Transfer to Android.
Nice to have the option I guess, but I’ve yet to encounter a platform migration tool that didn’t make a complete mess of something, not to mention the fact they transfer however many years of cruft along with everything else.
It’s like moving house and bringing all the dust with you.
I find it’s far easier to just have a clean slate and manually transfer data that matters.
Nice to know if I ever come back to
Apple bis in the makingAndroid
