    He may be right, but he is missing the low-hanging fruit. Every single Belgian gov agency uses Microsoft for email. WTF? Email is not that complicated. There is no reason for this. They could have simply used a European email provider. They also use Facebook and Twitter when they could simply be using the fediverse. Before talking about starting local industries, just make the simple changes first.

      Very true!! Such a simple behavioural change would help massively, if only in setting the proper example, so local business leaders might follow the example, and also in giving the proper signal to the people to at least think twice about this.

      The same goes for most schools: e.g. HOGent runs everything on Microsoft, thus training the pupils to be locked into the vendor ecosystem and to regard it as normal. Very disturbing.
