The only country in Europe which, after the 2008 Crash, actually arrested the heads of the banks responsible.
Iceland joining the EU would actually IMPROVE the EU.
I would welcome them with open arms!
Don’t underestimate the importance of fisheries to Iceland: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cod_Wars
One thing that’s changed since the last time we were negotiating to join is that the UK is now out of the EU. This could make it much easier to reach an agreement about fisheries. So I guess some good may yet come of Brexit?
Go further back, and there was conflict with Spain and Portugal over the same fish.
I always joke with my wife that if she dies, I’m moving to Iceland. Her response was always that her European citizenship would not help me move there. Hope rises.
As someone who moved to Iceland from the EU. Since Iceland is in the EEA it has special priviledges for people who want want to move in from the EEA. People from the EEA are allowed to buy property, and if you have an address you are allowed to stay indefinitely.
I hope that for Iceland the priority will be for Icelanders, though. It’s a small country and the linguistic and cultural diversity should be preserved through each region being able to retain those in good cooperation with each other.
