Aim to get a promotion or diagonal move every 3 years. If it doesn’t happen within 3, start looking elsewhere. Don’t let yourself stagnate as a professional.

Collect those raises. Get yourself some shiny things. Go on some nice international vacations. And use some of the money to advance leftism in whatever way satisfies you.
