    Specifically, it concerns the 28 convoys that departed from the Dossin Barracks in Mechelen between August 1942 and July 1944. Almost all of these trains went directly to the extermination camp Auschwitz in Poland. On board were mainly Jews, approximately 25,000, as well as a few hundred Roma and Sinti. After the war, only just over a thousand people returned alive.
