For the first time in Flanders, locally acquired West Nile virus infections have been confirmed. The department of Health announced this on Friday. The cases involve five probable instances, identified in regions where infections in horses and birds have also been recorded, and one person is currently hospitalised. According to the department of Health, the risk of infection and illness remains low.
