    I would think being genuinely interested in your kids hobbies and actively listening to them would be a couple actions that contribute.

      Active listening is very important.

      Also, really answer their questions in depth. Don’t just act like “That question is stupid/obvious”; it’s not to them and shouldn’t be to you. I would ask both my parents questions and they all too frequently would just look at me and then look away. It was very hurtful and frustrating; I still feel/think about it multiple decades later.
