You should read Palestine: A Four Thousand Year History by Nur Masalha
https://www.palestinechronicle.com/palestine-a-four-thousand-year-history-book-review/
It was a colonial possession for a long time, so the region wasn’t the most wealthy. The area was incredibly diverse, with various Islamic, Christian, and Jewish groups living next to each other. A lot of local politics was clan based, with heads of families handling a lot of dispute resolution and internal welfare. The various peoples generally practiced a form of Zeus’s Law from the Odyssey, extremely hospitable to outsiders.
Also curious of this. Seems like one of those topics where every point of view is going to want to paint a motivated picture but I want to see life there as it was.
UK had domain over them like India, didn’t they?
The UK did, but Palestine was different than the more extractive treatment of India.
The British basically picked Jews as the minority to give power to but were far more hands off. Zionist groups used the time and power to immigrate to Israel and establish themselves as the dominant ethnic group. When the British left, Zionist Jews were able to solidify their holdings by having a well trained and supplied army.
You have to be specific (rule 2). This is a very general question.
