President signed the legislation championed by late senator Lindsey Graham last month but has waived the restrictions as they were due to come into effect

Maybe “the West” no longer exists. There’s just the US and then there’s Europe, and each of them is doing their own thing.

France is also in the world, doesn’t mean everyone on the planet takes part in the CFA.

Polls consistently show most Ukrainians reject giving up territory for peace. And “annexation makes the debt disappear” means the people being annexed lose their say entirely.

Opposing neoliberalism and colonialism and opposing Russia’s invasion are not contradictory positions. I‘d argue you’re a hypocrite for wanting one colonial leftover gone, but another installed.

      No, just France’s African serfs.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I think the normal method for determining the democratic human right of self determination is actually VOTING.

They can vote in Eurovision singing contests, but not for their government. Makes perfect sense. Sure. Yeah. Okay.

You can’t see it, but I’m making masturbatory motions with my hand.

So it’s France now, not Europa anymore? Progress, I suppose.

I don’t know or care about the Eurovision Song Contest, but I do know that voting in Ukraine is halted during martial law, which was installed in case of a invasion by a foreign power - which makes sense. I’m on the line about this, actually, but I do love how you bring this up to critize it, but ignore Putins cling to power by manipulation and election fraud. You‘ll probably similarly defend the elections in the GDR, Soviet Union and North Korea.

The clause you speak of was inserted into the constitution AFTER the coup led by the Svoboda controlled junta.

It may also come as a shock that the coup was unconstitutional.

Russia actually HAS elections. Putin is massively popular even by Western polling, and got more popular when he upheld Donbass and Crimean democratic secession militarily. The first democratic referendum in the Soviet Union saw almost every Republic choose to stay, INCLUDING UKRAINE.

Gorbachev dissolved the entire Soviet Union against the democratic mandate of the people.

The West only sees democracy as a cudgel to steal natural resources when it suits them. Democracy to you is just a selective privilege enjoyed on the backs of the oppressed.

Doesn’t matter when the clause was introduced.

Russia has elections like North Korea has elections. Putin might be popular, but so is Trump.

Gorbachev dissolved the entire Soviet Union against the democratic mandate of the people.

Didn’t you say Nations don’t have a right to exist, anyway?

I said that nations are based on the democratic mandate of the Individual, which was the referendum.

You don’t get to decide people “voted wrong”. That’s not democracy. That’s empire.

People have a right to exist, not nations.

                is what you said.

I don’t decide people voted wrong, indeed. History looks at how elections were conducted, - and frankly, even common sense should point out - that people recently occupied by a foreign power usually do not get to vote freely and independently. Look at the annexation of Austria by Hitler. I think the Krim „referendum“ had only 95 or 97% approved instead of 99%, but you get the point.
