Discussion boards existed way before what people consider ‘social media’ (MySpace, Facebook, and the list goes on), places where people talk not about a topic at hand but themselves. If you consider ALL OF IT social media then I guess I agree, sure. And live streams about themselves and not, like, an open discussion about a given topic is certainly what one would consider ‘social media’, but like I said it’s all about what you do with the platform.

YouTube is not really ‘social media’ unless by that one means ‘audiovisual media created by non-corporate entities, fellow members of society’. I guess it can be if all you watch is GRWM and ‘daily updates’ videos…

YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Mayonnaise is disgustingEnglish6·14 hours agoThis is a very strong reaction to the existence of mayo. 🤣
Probably more like “be wise enough to understand the world and yourself without feeling overwhelmed by it” because almost invariably the reason people have so much venom for the “other” is due to their own insecurities and misconceptions (“if I make you feel bad about yourself and you accept it/don’t fight it, I’m better than you and that gives me enough fuel not to collapse”), but I guess ‘skill issue’ is succint, lol.

“Misogyny is a skill issue”.
Women-hating PUAs/incels explained succinctly! But when the average man in your community has that ‘skill issue’, it becomes a cultural problem.

Many things at many times, but never about my personal life and thoughts, and that of my immediate circle. It’s things like why Kissinger was infamous or what Belgium was doing in Congo some years ago, and how it seems at times that I “swim in the sea of the unconscious” (from Persona 4’s OP, wonderful game!) and I can’t seem to find any solution to it besides waking people up one by one and the destiny of the world lies on people who know what Labubu is but don’t know why they do the things they do because they’re consumerist, hedonistic, unthinking automatons (to certain degrees, of course, but the Western ideological vacuum leaves people to default into it. And God has been dead there since at least Nietzsche’s days)…
But then I take a deep breath and remember I too will die in due time and whatever responsibility I feel for this world will die with me. And also, I’m just one man. 🤷
YappyMonotheist@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Man, I really got hit with a "All men are predators, it's in the studies". 2nd wave feminism is a scourge on feminism itself.English18·2 days agoEh, some people are too stupid to successfully think in non-extreme, non-categorically binary terms, at least not without leading them through it. It’s easy to ‘make sense’ (lol) of the world that way, just like it’s easier to read the horoscope and KNOW there’s just 12 different kinds of people (maybe more if you count the ‘ascendant’ sign or whatever) than it is to understand human complexity and the mixture of culture (time and place), life experiences (various ways of childhood trauma come here), attachment styles, etc. that makes a person.
Bad experience, but not a common one I think. Inhale, exhale, forget about it.
That’s just having eyes and ears, lol. And a heart to be on the side of the oppressed and not the oppressor, I guess. I prefer using other words, that’s all. Best case scenario, it’s tacky/vacuous; worst case scenario it means I consider the oversexualization of everything (and even infantilization like Sabrina Carpenter’s whole act, for instance), ‘polyamory’ and AGP transexualism, for instance, valid ways of living/thinking simply because I don’t think people should be persecuted because they put on a short skirt (or the same but they have a penis)/like the same sex/are not nationalistic Europeans…
I guess a bit of homosexual privilege helps balance the world out, lol.

I just don’t like the term woke (even if I’m probably more ‘awake’ than I’m not, lol, whatever that means) because it’s loaded and represents too many ‘ideologies’, at times conflicting. I’m reasonable.

If you only speak English, perhaps The Netherlands? Lovely place, okay folk and overall cheap for the quality of life provided (compared to France and Belgium, for instance).
