Yes agree but the NDP have been here before (reduced), NDP voters lent their vote to the Liberals this time to block a PP govt while US is attacking us. While I acknowledge that the federal NDP is in disarray (no leader and very few federal seats) they still are the provincial govt in BC and Manitoba and form the opposition in Alberta, Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Saskatchewan. You could say that the federal cons are also in disarray, the leader without a seat, a leader who is the least popular leader in the country, who still has to survive a leadership review, and who may not survive that. We are not turning into a 2 party country actually IMO.

Trump will manufacture a war to stay in power. Or just stay because the SC is in his pocket.
Trump is not leaving office. Why would he?? He’s amassed so much power, there’s no reason for him to leave. USA is over. As a Canadian, we have to arm ourselves - against the US. It comes down to that.

An absolutely pathetic party that fluffs the fossil industry - which has killed the planet. And yet these CPC fucks want more heat, and death - and faster. FFS

CircaV@lemmy.caOPto Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadians upset Carney caved to Trump over digital services taxEnglish1·5 days agoI understand that Carney could have held on to it until the end of the negotiation. Instead he gave it up and got zip in return. Not to mention, the costs of the DST would have translated to higher costs to Canadians. So he was always gonna let that one go. The timing of it was not ideal.
The only saving grace is if we go in on a DST with the EU later and if a deal is not struck by July 21 I fully expect the DST to be back on (seeing as it needs Parliament to be sitting in order to repeal which won’t be until September).

He would have been an unmitigated catastrophe and it troubles me how close that fuckwhit came. And how he continues to try to remain. But unless Carney shows tangible results (which includes NOT capitulation to fash), his term as PM will be one and done.
CircaV@lemmy.caOPto Canada@lemmy.ca•Canadians upset Carney caved to Trump over digital services taxEnglish27·8 days agoUhhhh in case you didn’t notice - when Amazon in QC unionized, Amazon pulled out of Quebec. We don’t need US digital services, it’s one of the easiest things we can replace. Might be a headache for some workplaces to get off Microsoft, SharePoint, or azure but ultimately - it’s not that hard. IT can do it. We have server farms and digital services in Canada. It’s easy to replace as opposed to say, re-tooling a car factory.
Do you really need Facebook, X, Apple, Netflix, Disney+ shitmaganda!? Or can you grab what you want from Crave or the high Cs. Our newspapers are largely already owned by US hedge fund billionaire massive global corporations - so taxing them at a minuscule rate is nothing to them. And they are free to fuck off doing business in our country if they don’t like the DST. This was a cowardly and weak capitulation on the part of Carney - unless we are infact joining the EU and OECD on a digital service tax as part of a bloc of countries (which could track).
But right now, we don’t know - so am skeptical about what Carney just gave up.
Like Charlie Angus. What I wouldn’t give to have him be up against Carney and PP.
