I recognized this immediately. I hope Kyle “The Yellow Dart” Smith is doing okay

Ridiculous. The metric system is all the same. How many millimommies in a decamommy? I dunno, but it’s 10 or 100 or 1000 or something like that. Everything is a factor of ten, and the unit conversions are even a factor of 10! You can look that up in a table, and a 6-year-old can properly measure things. Booooring!
Now look at the Imperial/English/Standard/US/Florida system: how many hogshead in a cubic furlong? Nobody knows offhand, so you have to get creative. Is it a US standard colonial, also called a tobacco hogshead? Or is it the British hogshead? It may depend on the contents, like whether it’s brandy or sugar or fish (the species matters!). You can convert to firkins if you wish, but that’s optional. As for furlongs, it used to depend on the horse, but sadly they standardized it to 40 rods, because German feet were longer than English feet, probably due to the toes. Fortunately, some states in the US still disagree on definitions, so the length may depend on the state. Once you figure that out, you can easily calculate that using a English wine hogshead and an international furlong leads to about 34,136,818.7 hogshead in a cubic furlong. Explain to me how that’s not better than your silly metric system!
I don’t disagree with you, but I will say that it is quite dependent on the community. I had some issues for a while, but spent time filtering and muting/blocking communities and users, and now I’m at a point where my feed is significantly less fanatical and toxic than Reddit ever was (even after years of attempting to filter the same way).
Exactly my reason. After the Reddit API fiasco, I tried the Lemmy web interfaces at first and was a bit frustrated because it just didn’t work well. Then I saw Boost had a Lemmy version, and switched over, easy-peasy.

CuriousRefugee@discuss.tchncs.detoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•Pledge of allegiance is woke propagandaEnglish21·1 month agoI know I’m in the minority, but I actually like the pledge, even if it’s reminiscent of authoritarianism (and I strongly believe it should be optional). But that’s because my interpretation was always “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the USA, and to the [ideals and values of the] republic for which it stands.” I viewed it as an affirmation of the commitment by myself to the “liberty and justice for all” we wanted, not as a statement of fact that no matter what the current leadership does, you should be loyal.
All that being said, I could see a contribution of the pledge to an environment of the nationalism or jingoism that led to MAGA. I just don’t blame the pledge; I blame the leaders, politicians, media personalities, and individuals that drove MAGA to become mainstream.
There’s enough variety here that I don’t mind them. If they were dominating the community, that’s one thing, but I don’t see that as the case right now.

Now, you only have to remember that Makemake and Orcus are in the Kuiper belt (past Neptune’s orbit), and that maybe that Salacia is optional, and you can puzzle out the two repeated letters.
I spent too long on this.
No! I’m sure we’ve aged like a fine milk. Strongbad is timeless!
