I think the downvotes are because the post implies that the Chinese did not kill anyone, when hundreds were murdered. What became of tank man is unknown, but it’s clear he wasn’t killed by one of those tanks.

Canada@lemmy.ca•U.S. demanding concessions from Canada before trade talks, sources say
17·15 days agoConcede us nothing, Canada. Then make your own demands for concessions. The boycotts are working, don’t give up now.
Not a pro, but certainly an avid cook with 40+ years of experience. I will also highly recommend the All-Clad pots and pans, Le Creuset dutch ovens, and Lodge skillets. The first two are very expensive, but worth it. All of them are used almost daily, and each has suffered quite a bit of abuse. I would definitely say they are Buy It For Life and would not hesitate to buy again.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that a dirt-cheap pair of lab goggles can save you from crying while slicing onions
43·25 days agoUse a sharp knife because a duller knife is less safe, and it does more smashing than cutting which casues more fumes.
Don’t put your head over the onions as you work. Take a half step back and extend your arms more so you’re further away from the fumes.
If your kitchen is not well ventilated, put your cutting board on the stove and turn on the hood.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What other delivery mechanisms are there, and which ones are your favourites?
6·29 days agoTortilla chips are the ultimate delivery mechanism. Chips and salsa, bean dip, guacamole, or queso. Combine some or all, or add cheese or protein and you have nachos. Or eat the chips just for the salt.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What balance do you find between constantly bettering yourself, vs just chilling?
6·2 months agoDepends on your perspective. I consider taking time to read a book or doing some gardening to be bettering oneself. A 5am run would benefit me to be in better shape, but it deprives me of an hour of sleep.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something about how people view or use technology that needs to die?
12·3 months agoA lot of tech evolves and changes quickly, and a whole lot of people just dont like change, especially as they get older. It is also harder to learn new things as you get older. While it doesn’t apply across the board, the “can’t teach an old dog” addage generally holds true. This is not something that will go away. If you dont want to become that person, continue to exercise your brain as you age, and learning new tricks will be easier.
Don’t forget the massive gambling problem.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How many of you actually do sports betting with FanDuel and DraftKings?
7·4 months agoNo, I dont and won’t use them. The worst part about these apps is that I now question the legitimacy of sports. I am not confident that the athletes are able to resist the temptation to throw a game.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•I need a savoury, summery drink as an alternative to beer
1·6 months agoThe classic margarita. Tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, and just a little bit of sweetener to take the edge off the acidity, or omit it altogether. Serve over ice.
It comes from Wōdnesdæg, for the Germanic god Woden, aka Odin. I prefer Odin’s Day myself.

Cooking @lemmy.world•I have dyspraxia can you guide me buying a liquid measurer?
11·7 months agoI agree that weight is the best way to go, however not all recipes use weight and some conversions do not work well. An adjustable measuring device like this may help: https://www.oxo.com/2-cup-adjustable-measuring-cup.html

I think she has a quest for you; and it’s clearly to get her food.
While knowledge of electricity dates back centuries, common electrification didn’t start until the 1880s when Canada, Australia, Japan, the UK, and the US each had a small rudimentary system in place, but the countries were hardly electrified. Since it’s not yet 2080, it cannot be said Africa has been denied electrification for centuries, just one century at best. From there i would have to ask why should it be Europe’s or China’s responsibility to electrify Africa? After visiting South Africa last year, and I cannot speak about other nations; it’s readily apparent that they themselves are the deniers of electricity and other pieces of modern infrastructure. I have no doubt or illusions that forces outside SA play a role in this, but the people and government of SA need to determine what it is they want.

Mostly travel, but the list continually grows after I visit a place, and thus will never be exhausted.
I have rudimentary woodshop skills and want to build my own kitchen and bath cabinets. I still have a lot to learn.
There are a lot of books i want to read; another never ending list.
