Not really. Teenagers and young adults used to party a lot, and those parties used to have a lot of alcohol

I actually rather like the taste. Although it’s certainly an acquired taste. Like salminak

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: If you receive a high medical bill, don't pay it immediately. Ask for an itemized bill first.
1·26 minutes agoI thought generics were handled relatively similarly in the EU and the US, but apparently the US does grant a bunch of exclusivities, on top of patents.
However the biggest difference between those health systems still seems to be how providers bargain for lower prices.
In the US, insurances bargain for rebates. That means that if you buy a drug with insurance the insurance only pays a small percentage of the drug price. They are still allowed to demand copay on the list price. So often the insurance makes a profit in that transaction. But if you try to go around insurance you have to pay the full list price and will pay even more.
Over here, the universal healthcare providers bargain with the pharma companies to lower the list price. And with a much greater bargaining power to boot.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there some sort of app or website where I can do creative writing ?
2·1 hour agoAO3 is not predominantly smut. It allows smut. So people go there to find it. But most works aren’t smut. And it has a really powerful filtering system, so you can find what you want.
Most of the time I go there for humour.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•"Between raising two young boys and putting in long hours at a marketing job, Kevin Caldwell can almost never find the time to make dinner. So he and his husband spend about $700 a week to order in"English
7·1 hour agoIt really depends on the restaurant. Eating Chick-fil-A every day certainly isn’t healthy. But there are plenty of proper restaurants that are.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•We need libraries, but instead of books, you borrow musical instruments.
2·1 hour agoMy concert band does that. You can borrow an instrument and we arrange for cheaper tutoring. You just have to promise to play in our band a year later.
The local music school (the place where you go to get a tutor. Not a school for general education) and the local instrument store also lend out instruments.
That would be a reason for more alcohol
Because alcohol is bad for you?
Our parents were still told that a glass of wine a day was healthy.
It’s just UHT. UHT dairy is very much legal in the US. And does not have to be refrigerated. It often is, because unrefrigerated milk makes US consumers uneasy. But it doesn’t have to be.
I am aware that it’s less common than it is in Europe. But it’s not an unreasonable question.

1·2 hours agoHigh prices are due to a lack of government regulations.
Pharma companies can set the prices according to what people are willing to pay. And people are willing to pay everything if it will save their lifes.

1·2 hours agoIt doesn’t have to be. Here we have mandatory insurance. So it’s still called a premium.
“Do you guys have any sour cream that isn’t refrigerated?”
How is that a stupid question?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is the role of a government to do the will of the people, or to do whats right for the country?
10·18 hours agoGood for the country.
Most people are assholes. The government shouldn’t enact racist policies just because the people want to.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some red flags when it comes to renting in an apartment?
1·2 days agoThat’s fucked up. They can’t do that here. Landlords can only evict you for a short list of valid reasons. And even then there’s a 3 month notice period.
But no matter what system you live in, there will always be better and worse landlords. And apparently OP prefers landlords who do make a habit of evicting people.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is it common courtesy to stack your shopping cart back with the other carts?
5·2 days agoOf course it is. Stray carts wreck havoc on cars if there’s a breeze

2·2 days agoAll supermarkets here do. But some people have removable tokens you can just pull out. And nobody botheres to chain them up again. But people still put them back properly
More commonly it’s addiction that causes poverty. Drugs are expensive. And an addiction doesn’t make it easier to keep a job.
The tips about opioids and stimulants are also valid if you want to reduce harm while doing those kinds of drugs.
There’s a reason rich people prefer them.

Company unions don’t work.
And if union busting is encouraged by the government, being part of a regular union might not be worth the sacrifice.
