There’s nothing left to be proud of. Just vague platitudes about freedom and performative military worship that have been socially beaten into people since 2001. I have no faith remaining in my fellow countrymen. I am unable to clearly see a future for myself living here as I am now. What is left to be patriotic about?
All the true patriots are dead. They were buried long ago. Modern patriotism is a marketing gimmick. I refuse to be a party to it.
I feel so bad for this man, because even if he’s acquitted of all the charges, the insane right wingers will never let him have peace. They’ll hound him and his family forever.
Heck, even if he is guilty and the jury determines as such, it’s still not an excuse to torture him to death either.

Change the constitution then. It’s crystal clear. We don’t live in a vibe democracy. You don’t jut get to pick and choose what laws you get to follow if you want to be a nation of laws at all.
The thing about ending birthright citizenship is that it would just create a stateless individual. Where would they even deport children of undocumented immigrants to? Are they going to make an El Salvadorian gulag for them too?
The former SCOTUS ruling on the 14th amendment was really clear - if you are born here, you are a citizen regardless of your parent’s legal immigration status. I don’t understand why the SCOTUS is even bothering to hear this case when even a constitutional literalist would have difficulty trying to weasel-word their way into a ruling that supports the Republican position on this one.
I can thing of few things more cruel than a state that looks at a literal child who was born here, lived here all their lives, speaks the language, attends school, has friends and family and a support structure and would otherwise be indistinguishable from any other American child born to American-born parents, and deport them to a country they’ve never set foot in for no real discernible reason other than they are anti-immigrant racists.

I hate this political party so much. Not as much as the Republican party, but enough to make me want to quit following politics because it seems like nothing will ever meaningfully change.
Is there a list of names? Because if any of my reps show up on this list, I will never vote for them again.
I don’t want these fucking dinosaurs running the goddamn party anymore. I want some progressives with teeth who have the backbone to fight the fascists head on. I don’t care how petty or how low they have to get, I want to see them at least try.
I use only Lemmy. It was easy for me since I pretty much only used Reddit until the mass exodus happened about a year ago and then shortly after they killed the RiF app for Android and I lost the way that I consumed Reddit 95% of the time so I transitioned to using Lemmy full time. I didn’t have much of a choice unless I used PC to access Reddit, which I will still do from time to time for niche subjects, but I avoid posting.
I’ve never had any other “traditional” social media accounts. Call me a hipster, but I thought that shit was lame when people were constantly asking about adding me on MySpace or Facebook and just never bothered to jump on the bandwagon. Eventually, when it came out that those places were cesspools run by unethical hacks I avoided ever signing up intentionally and thanked my lucky stars that I was a grumpy and rebellious contrarian in my youth. I think I was forced to make a Facebook account to use my Oculus VR headset, but I put in as little factual information as I could get away with and never interacted with their terrible algorithm.
If the labor that is necessary for feeding people can’t exist without undocumented workers, then perhaps the system itself is fundamentally broken if there is no easy path to citizenship.
You cannot have it both ways, Trump. Either it’s easy to come here and get papered up and nobody gets deported (and he loses his ultimate scapegoat), or it’s just as hard as it is now and we deport everyone working the fields and starve.
It’s always interesting to hear what animated character was somebody else’s furry awakening. For me it was Krystal also, but every time I meet a furry younger than myself, I can see clear distinction between what age group they belong to and which anthropomorphic character they were sexually attracted to as a kid, lol.
