the key is fighting the way they don’t want to fight. cut their supply lines. never stay in one place. never confront them in a pitched battle unless you already know before the battle starts you’ll win.

I think it’s because when people are looking for a BIFL product they’re looking to replace a pattern of behavior (disposables) or something they broke. Water bottles are one of the most disposed of items (it’s truly shocking that selling water which should be free is a ~300 billion dollar industry), and experience a lot of drops and abuse in the form of getting tossed in the dishwasher. So I think what we mostly see when people present, or ask for their water bottles is basically real world experience with “Hey! This is my thing, this is the longest I’ve had one of these thing. It’s doing pretty good I think!” or “Hey, I broke my thing. Do y’all have suggestions for thing that has lasted a long time”
I’d say 20 year old stanley mug is a GREAT endorsement for stanley mug.
Contigo is in such a funny spot. It’s overrepresented in non-BIFL spaces but also underrepresented in BIFL spaces. Like it’s not my preference, but you can’t argue with that they genuinely seem to last good. Like a hydroflask or klean kanteen travel mug is probably more durable, especially if you put a bottle boot on them, but if you want a travel mug you can open and close one handed… Contigo is kinda it
For real. Firefox should be positioning itself as the only real alternative to the vast Blink-based “It’s all just pallet swapped Chrome” ecosystem but every opportunity Google gives them to do that instead of actually positioning themselves as an alternative, they shoot themselves in the foot. It’s gotten bad enough that people who advocated for Firefox for years have thrown their hands up in the air, given up, and moved on to other browsers without any so much hope to be positioned as a real alternative like Waterfox and Servo. I don’t think it’s being talked about enough how Mozilla has squandered all of the good will they ever had when at one point it was advocates like us who pushed it to become the only real alternative to Microsoft Internet Explorer. We were able to overthrow a browser with just as much reach into market share as Google Chrome has now, but in order to do that we need an alternative browser that is actually factually an alternative. And Mozilla just isn’t giving us one at this point

it shouldn’t be hard to figure this out. the problem isn’t who runs the prisons, it’s that the prisons exist. anywhere you have people held against their will, you have risk for abuse because freedom of movement is a human trait. imprisonment is one of several steps on the road of dehumanization.
there’s also the issue that China’s current government conducts itself in a manner that is Han-supremacist. minority groups in china are not treated with equal dignity. my deeper critique of all this spirals out into a discussion about how capitalist and imperial structures have to be orthogonally opposed rather than strictly directly opposed because when you always say the opposite of something else you become predictable and easy to manipulate, but just what i’ve said is fine for now

not exactly. the more nuanced inspection of what he said was that donald trump’s plans to deregulate the tech industry he expected to benefit his company. however, that deregulation is in service of allowing more surveillance capitalism, environmental degredation, and worker mistreatment. the wording i provided is what that ultimately means as an analysis of how and why proton would make more money in that type of environment

some people are more comfortable doing all of their computer actions from the keyboard without reaching for the mouse. tiling WMs tend to make that easier to do at the cost of requiring some learning
okay. so. ecofascism ignores, or is ignorant of, the role that indigenous people played maintaining ecosystems and the overall climate of this world. they frame the tragedy of the commons as that a commonly shared resource will be overutilized by the community leading to the degredation and loss of that resource. given this, they believe that a top level force is required to protect that resource.
the flaw with this framing is that anthropologically, there is no evidence that the tragedy of the commons works this way. we have much more evidence of an ownership class overexploiting a resource than we do collaborative communities. the people, left to their own devices, will largely find solutions that will best fit all their needs, where as an ecofascist route will generally only allow the person commanding the economy to assess needs and they will do so with their set of biases and blindspots, leading to things like the famines of the 5 year plans and the great leap forward
ecofascism is an authoritarian approach to addressing global climate change. they believe that poor people are a strain upon the land and that left to their own devices humanity would destroy the planet out of spite.
often, they ignore the top heavy causes of climate change. i can elaborate now but i need to go to the store
the people who understand what’s going on have figured out that what the regime means is “brown people are, as a group, the worst of the worst.” the people who don’t understand that are more vulnerable to believe that the face value is the truth
