  • I see. You could start small and then see where it takes you from there. Hobbies does not always have to lead to full time business. If it happens, it happens. I think hobbies should always be, first and foremost, hobbies. Everything that comes out of it is secondary. I would do hobbies as enjoyment while being unemployed; to keep myself busy and sane. That’s just my two cent :)

  • I’m not USian, but from what analysts worth their salt would say, it is combination of-- but not limited to-- intentional dumbification of Americans, the opposition not really being opposition, the US Supreme Court legalising bribery, the atomisation and polarisation of American communities, de-industrialisation, growing wealth inequality and general corruption. These contributed to the growth of frustration and populism among the voters to vote for anyone who is “not establishment”. Someone who “tells it like it is” unlike most politicians who always do politician speak. In the minds of many Americans, Trump may be a grifter and a pervert, but they see him as genuine. If the democracy is a sham after all, might as well pull down the mask and show tje country for what it truly is. That’s why people say Trump is a symptom, not the cause. The same symptom is happening across the world which is why we’re getting the same far right populism.

  • As for your point 4, De Gaulle was right to refuse being subordinated to the US after World War 2, and to pursue “strategic autonomy” instead.

Even before Trump 2.0, I always thought about the nature of the concept of alliance itself. Jacobin magazine made a point about not building alliance, but solidarity instead. Alliance implies impermanence and a tit for tat deal. Whereas, solidarity shows unquestionable mutual cooperation that does not look for anything in return. Jacobin wrote it in the context of social justice particularly on gender, race and lgbt; but going back to De Gaulle, he did say that there is no permanent alliance, only permanent interest. He knew that alliance with US is not everlasting and was correct to de-couple. France has its own interest for sure, but their policy is to first build cultural, political and military solidarity with Europe, which would translate to alliance.

  • I don’t know, you can’t convince them all. I feel like it’s an act of desperate self-preservation, if not internalised oppression, for these simps. They’re confused and don’t know what to do. I am glad I immigrated to Ireland where the people are welcoming and the Irish themselves suffered from historical discrimination so they know what it’s like. However, the wind is slowly changing, and the formerly fringe far right is gaining some momentum here. I am hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. I think that’s what anyone from minority groups could do, instead of playing respectability politics, which only feeds more the monsters that the simps are trying to avoid.

Or better yet, we should organise class-conscious movements that transcends race, religion and gender. Because much of the far right populism experiencing across the world stems from decade long austerity. The “scarce” resources that people are fighting on is artificially induced by capital owners and their bought politicians. Immigrants are not making housing more expensive, politicians and corporations just don’t want to build more houses. Immigrants are not driving down wages, the elites just don’t want to raise federal wages. The government is not in debt, politicians just don’t want to raise the taxes of their rich donors.
