Thanks, and fixed my spelling mistake

It looks promising, the UI looks much better. Other than the absence of a built in p2p livestream option, and an explicit no to federation.

As comparison fluxer which I was much more interested in (polyproto federation, better UX mobile and web, hype) needs 4 containers (ex. proxy & certbot) needs 80 443 7700 7880 7881 3478 50000-50100 ports & two configuration files that needs edits to connect them.

For lifekit to work it needs direct https access, if you’re running caddy server that means connecting the tls certs to livekit somehow then opening up a hole range of ports.

Turns out the piefed tags don’t federate with lemmy, if you want proof I wasn’t acting in bad faith look at the post from my server.

https://piefed.nl/c/selfhosted@lemmy.world/p/226603/haven-discord-alternative-discussion-on-p2p-mediasoup-livekit

You make a point on federation but Haven does allow you to login using sso from your own server.

I guess it’s also about what you need, for a small server for a 3-12 friends it works fine where alternatives are total overkill to selfhost.

Once i find a different discord clone thats this easy to selfhost I’ll switch to it immediately. Before commenting I’d urge you to try selfhosting the other clones its a minefield of ports which scares me off tbh

I did tag it?

Edit: I’ve now added it to the title too, I guess some clients don’t support piefed’s tags

Here is the docker-compose file I’m using (I reverse proxy http://localhost:3000/ on the host):

services:
  haven:
    container_name: haven
    image: ghcr.io/ancsemi/haven:latest
    ports:
      - 127.0.0.1:3000:3000
    volumes:
      - ./data:/data
    environment:
      - PORT=3000
      - FORCE_HTTP=true
    restart: unless-stopped

My perspective is a self hosting hobbyist I noticed for those running on more reliable vps servers with rollbacks being a last resort the higher requirements are not as important.

Not sure why the php foundation didn’t look at frankenphp and said yes this will be the software for php9

NIH i guess

So that a few 100 people can spam test on the public channel and forget about it.

If you want to know how to really function in a surveillance state look at the Russian underground networks: irc over (insert proxy method here)

Probably I mean it’s built to not edit your mp3s (for better or worse), it’s written in GoLang yay but who knows in this age.

Currently I’m only hosting it on LAN and relying on song caching of outside but I wouldn’t be too worried about opening it up.

The free tier 3 ads per song will get them.

Test out which navidrome client each person would prefer yourself. I made the mistake of first advising Amperify to someone who likes to listen on shuffle instead of by album.

Of all options you choose Nextcloud as alternative? You have so many options;

Ente photos, PhotoPrism, Piwigo, TinyCld

Compare frameworks more than languages.

Hyper > Gin > FastAPI > NextJS > Laravel > Drupal

Qt > GTK > Tauri > Fyne > Wails > Electron > React Native

Sqlite ~ Pgsql > mariadb

One docker container > ten micro services

Environment variables > ini > database config table

Edit: voters have spoken sqlite and pg are now on equal footing.

Pick one:

1. Complicated to selfhost so the mayority uses the main server
2. Simple to selfhost, hosted by many in their cabinet, total win; copyparty, syncthing, navidrome, immich, gotosocial, haven, radicale, gancio
