Yeah, I’m still angry that I’m not allowed to microwave my cat, just because some idiot back in the days used the Popcorn program for that instead of the Feline & Furry program.

Is that really a thing? I’ve seen exactly one such site and that was when GDPR was new and someone linked to that site for exactly that reason.
I know that. But I’m not sure the commenter we’re responding to is British.
I guess, that in a country where public healthcare and maternity leave are considered communism or socialism, being antisocial might be seen as something positive.
I don’t know what the laws are in the US, but over here in Germany this would be a really stupid idea. Speeding might cost you 800€ and a suspended license for a few months. (“Normal” speeding, that is. Street races or actually endangering/hurting someone is a crime)
But meddling with your licence plate is considered falsification of official documents and would put you in prison for up to five years. I wonder if such a law doesn’t exist in the US.
Also, as I read in the other comments about cops ignoring that. But that would be another criminal offence on behalf of the cop (prevention of punishment by an official) which is also punishable with up to 5 years behind bars (and obviously would cause them to lose their jobs and pensions).
Just because I burn less calories on an e-bike doesn’t mean I consume less calories, just that I get fatter faster 🤣. All that fat will still turn into CO₂ once I start to decompose.
OTOH, if I get fatter, I’ll probably start decomposing earlier, so you might be right that in the long run I’ll save on CO₂.
It highly depends on who you’ve elected to govern the respective entities. In general it’s better to have the same standards across the whole province or even between provinces. They just have to be good standards, so you have to elect progressive politicians at the province level too.
For example, you wouldn’t want to have different road markings from one city to the next, or bicycle paths that just end at the city border. And if you want a bicycle highway from idk, lets say Ottawa to Montreal, you need the provinces and even the federal government on board.
Over here in Europe we’ve recently developed some crazy new technology: It’s a flashing blue light that’s mounted on top of police cars, and we call it “flashing blue light”. It allows police and other emergency vehicles to (for example) drive the wrong way into one-way streets or drive on bicycle lanes. Maybe, some day you’ll develop something alike too, in the US.
Can’t be done in Canada, because of the cold weather. /s
Is North Korean media part of that “Propaganda Multiplier”?
Luckily our city’s traffic minister is a keen cyclist. That really shows in the development of bike infrastructure in the last 5 years.
I’m not sure if that’s what you’re looking for, but such studies are standard procedure for major infrastructure projects, at least where I’m from. Here’s the 49-page executive summary for a new subway that’s currently being built in my home town. It’s obviously in German, but I guess the same should exist in English for any subway/tram etc. that has been built in the UK or any other English speaking country.
To give a brief summary of the summary: They’ve included all kinds of costs like
etc. and they come to a net-worth of 1.28 (later this was reduced to 1.23 due to unexpectedly high inflation in construction, but I don’t know if they also recalculated the without-case after inflation), meaning every 1€ spent will generate 1.28€ in revenue/savings. Or a net gain of 39 Million Euros per year.
I guess you didn’t, I just read it that way being under the influence of all the other comments on this meme here and elsewhere, that seem to insinuate that comparing construction in these two places is smh wrong because China=evil and North America=righteous.
My bad to place your comment in the same category.
You just gave proof that the people who are in the way don’t matter in the US either, as long as it’s about building inner city highways.
The difference between China and the US is, that the Chinese government does what they deem is necessary and logical, ignoring the people while the US does what the deem is profitable and lucrative ignoring the people.
Not a good recommendation. I was hoping for a relaxing NJB video from the Netherlands, instead I was screaming at my screen, getting more and more infuriated with every new chapter. And haven’t even been near Toronto in my life.
See you later, I have to go find some Valium.

Whenever I meet someone who’s proud to drive Mercedes, I tell them, that it only costs 2,10€ to drive Mercedes. (In German, to drive and to ride (a bus/car/train) is the same word).
I knew that Škoda used to build tanks and planes, I just didn’t know about the trains.
I was confused at first: Since when does Škoda produce the Smart? Didn’t know they also build trains. 🚈🚃🚃🚃
WTF, how did this place look like in the past? Was it really a drive-through farmers market? Sorry if I sound stupid here, but that’s totally unimaginable for me as a non-USian. I’ve never seen a market that’s not pedestrianised in my life.
You guys would also drive your cars through the shelves of Walmart if you could, wouldn’t you?!
I was really confused by the title. For me, a school pickup line would be something a 9th grader is saying to their classmate in order to seduce them. And while these pickup lines might be getting worse over time, most of them were already pretty bad at my time.
