Maybe I got too complacent with htop… btop is purrrrdy.
Thanks!
Edit: OK yeah, btop is my new favorite. Still atop if I want history it looks like, but I can do everything I like about htop in btop so far.
And it looks real nice too

16·2 days agoThe middle ground, IMO, is not letting it spit out code.
Its almost certainly terrible, every time. Sometimes though… Its just mostly bad.
Ive found it useful for finding errors and potential optimizations though. Just not, you know, letting it actually write anything.
But letting it review and seeing:
This library is currently being considered for deprecation on this mailing list, where other library is being suggested instead.
Thats useful! Helpful, even.
Just not the nonsense it makes on its own.

15·2 days agomust say I hit a nerve here, hence unpopular opinion.
Not really. Its just a stupid opinion.
If anything - this minority of republicans you are speaking of should be called “neo-nazi”.
“Neo” = “New”.
So still a Nazi, just newer. Your complaint is we don’t specify that the modernized Nazis are modernized by name. That is what “neo” means. Modernized or revived.
So let’s recap - your complaint is that the current batch is not specifically called ‘new’.
Its not that your opinion is unpopular, its that your opinion is just really fucking stupid.
Edit: It would seem I am the one who struck a nerve, for pointing out how incredibly stupid it is to specify that these people are, in fact, not 90yr old former members of the Nazi party in Germany.

Chaptarr may end up being the solution as far as arr stacks , but TBD on that, its not yet fit for public consumption.
Otherwise, audiobookbay is a solid option.

9·3 days agoPersonally I like fastfetch with dacrabs tweaks.
In terms of distributions, I’m not a good example of “so cool!”. Its pretty much just Debian. Stable for servers (with proxmox mostly), stable for my main desktop, two machines with Trixie and Sid respectively, then two test boxes with arch and endeavouros (for laziness purposes).
I like LMDE as a rec for others, though I prefer it with KDE which is no longer explicitly supported, so meh.
For family, if I’m doing it, its Deb stable all the way. Even my htpc’s are deb stable.

12·4 days agopiracy does not
Piracy is actually a huge driver in both legally purchasing content and secondary purchases (art, toys, statues/models, etc).
The overwhelming majority of pirates also point to the extreme increases in streaming costs as well as the constantly changing landscape of streaming services needed, sometimes to even watch a single show you’d need 3-4 services.
I’d also point out that many out there just want their stuff to be seen. Freddie Wong and Matt Arnold recently made We’re All Gonna Die, which was made available in theaters and then a ton of streaming options.
They then pointed to the availability of a 720p torrent (I’m not going to say that they released it) so everyone could see it. Why? Well maybe people will want to check out their other content, buy merch, or subscribe to their patreon where they make other content.
But to say piracy is not a driver is incorrect.

8·5 days agoSelf hosting wise, not much, just ran through updates (I prefer to do this manually) and set up a new box which will host another proxmost host and NAS.
The mobo/CPU that became the new server has been replaced with an Asus prime x370-pro and a spare 1700x to be used as a new endeavoros desktop (their defaults are close enough to what I want I dont bother with full manual install). Mostly need it for a KDE 6 box for dev/testing to go alongside the instances of Trixie/Sid, since I’m considering arch for some work stuff that Debian won’t fit the bill for.

My grandma used to make depression era meals for my dad (they were also poor), my dad made them for me (not as poor then solidly middle income), and I would love to eat them for nostalgia reasons. Can’t because of gluten, but I’ve been trying out various gluten free bread recipes to see if I can get something that works.
A reeeeeaaallly long way of agreeing and saying yeah, nostalgia plays a role.
