Not The Onion@lemmy.world•‘Pray With Me Please’: Pete Hegseth Reads Fake Bible Quote From ‘Pulp Fiction’ During Pentagon Prayer ServiceEnglish
18·6 days agoWas it ever really a thing though [in the US]? Like aren’t presidents sworn in on a Bible or something? And it says something about God on the money? And the pledge of allegiance? (The USA is a cult, btw)

News@lemmy.world•The US Torpedoed an Unarmed Ship. Who Are the Good Guys Again? | The Walrus
86·15 days agoThe US has been the main villain ever since they inherited the role from the British. None of this is surprising if you’ve been paying attention.
It actually still exists in people too, it’s just rare and treatable with antibiotics.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Microsoft Copilot is now injecting ads into pull requests on GitHub
15·22 days ago…a team member used the AI to fix a simple typo in a pull request.
A little beside the point, but why on earth would you use copilot to fix “a simple typo?”
Just the phrase “fix my typo” contains about 10 more characters than a typical “simple typo”.
Maybe there’s some context I’m missing, but I get the impression that the people using these chatbots every day just have their brains melted. Like even the most rudimentary task becomes daunting without the help of their little bullshit machine.
So, how fast would you have to go to get green?
Ok never mind I looked it up. 197,640,000 km/hr

World News@quokk.au•UN votes to describe slave trade as ‘gravest crime against humanity’
3·27 days agoYeah…no surprises here. Argentina isn’t usually part of the club, but Milei is a nutjob, so yeah, no surprises.

World News@lemmy.world•UN votes to recognise enslavement of Africans as 'gravest crime against humanity'English
40·27 days agoYou don’t have to look at everything in terms of individual responsibility. We can clearly see that the injustices caused by transatlantic slavery, and imperialism more broadly, are very much still here. I think it would be nice to try to remedy this.
Of course, it’s non-binding, and the countries that should probably be paying reparations just happen to have all abstained (except for the rogue USA of course, voting against) so I don’t expect anything will happen. But it’s a nice idea.
True that has to be a factor a well. As it turns out they have no issues applying the misogyny to children too.

News@lemmy.world•US downgraded in democracy index as press freedom concerns grow
3·1 month agoUmm excuse me, “corruption” is offensive, the correct term is “lobbying”.
I suppose this is the logical outcome of rabid individualism. It wasn’t their kids that were abused, but it’s their bank account getting drained at the gas station.

News@lemmy.world•US downgraded in democracy index as press freedom concerns grow
8·1 month agoIt’s “a democracy” in that the rich old white dude at the top gets swapped out every few years.
But any analysis of government policy vs what regular people want shows exactly no correlation. This isn’t even new. Sure it’s gotten even more egregious lately, but it has always been an oligarchy or plutocracy at best.
