Mine is the best for me because I like it the best. It does what I need with a minimum of configuration or customization. My needs and preferences are probably different from yours though, so Linux Mint Debian Edition with Cinnamon desktop environment might not be the best for you.

Once the finance capitalists gain control they will be steering the company. They don’t care about long term profits if they can squeeze high short term profits. They don’t give a shit about the company, especially in tech. They’ll sell off any IP (or keep it for their collection) when it’s time for bankruptcy and move on to the next target.

electric_nan@lemmy.mlto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Having the ability to lie and manipulate with no remorse will get you much further in this world than having morals and being correct13·11 days agoIt’s because we live in a system with perverse incentives. It’s practically designed by psychopaths, for psychopaths. Still, we only get one life, don’t spend it going against your better nature.
electric_nan@lemmy.mlto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does vibe coding sort of work at all?2·13 days agoYou don’t have to be a genius to learn programming, but it actually isn’t for everyone. Some people will never “get it” in any reasonable amount of time studying. Don’t ask me how I know!
We aren’t going to get to any of these policy reform ideas without the guillotines, actually. Why would any of the people who can’t help their greedy selves from accumulating absolutely everything, ever just willingly give up that power? We will never vote ourselves out of this hole we’re in. Even if we all went on a general strike, they would shoot us and enslave us.

All this discussion about captchas raises a question for me: if fingerprinting is so accurate and easy, that ublock, no cookies and a VPN don’t help… then why the fuck do I have to keep doing captchas?

electric_nan@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•‘Necessary to quell the rebellion’: DOJ tells 9th Circuit that Trump can deploy National Guard from every state and can’t be second-guessed by judges1·23 days agoSo you do understand part of what I’m saying, but not all of it. Yes, you can win with lies and you can win with the truth. You can also lose with either of them. Whichever way you go, you have to do it convincingly. Trump was convincing in his lies, and won. Kamala wasn’t, and didn’t. Does it do you any good to tell the truth unconvincingly in politics? This isn’t a criticism of truth, it’s a criticism of messaging and perception.
electric_nan@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•‘Necessary to quell the rebellion’: DOJ tells 9th Circuit that Trump can deploy National Guard from every state and can’t be second-guessed by judges1·23 days agoYou can’t paste it because I didn’t say it. I said that you can win by lying. Is that not a fact?
electric_nan@lemmy.mlto News@lemmy.world•‘Necessary to quell the rebellion’: DOJ tells 9th Circuit that Trump can deploy National Guard from every state and can’t be second-guessed by judges1·24 days agoI think you’re arguing with a figment of your own imagination. Nowhere have I said anything about winning at all costs for its own sake. I’m observing that the current dem strategy isn’t a winning one (indisputable), and I’m telling you why. Look, here’s a good example from the last election: people were not feeling good about the economy. Trump has an answer for them. It’s the wrong answer (tariffs and deportations), but he is engaging with a real concern. The democrat answer was “actually you’re wrong, the economy is great, look at the stock market”. They’re stuck, because as the party of the status quo, they can’t propose any radical changes to the system. They don’t want any radical changes to the system. This means that in effect, they aren’t even competing with republicans! I’m asking you to demand that your party compete.
