8·11 days agoHonestly, contract or not, that just means the forest folk don’t think this contract will benefit them any longer and that they now believe to be in a position of power to oppose you and your people. War is at your doorstep. You can whine about it or go smelt and cast some cold and pure iron already.
I love that there are so many of these mini games. I usually just start playing them and figure the rules out as I go. So far, all I’ve tried were designed so elegantly that the rules came naturally as I played around. Such an amazing feat, designing a self-explanatory novel puzzle game!

Technology@lemmy.world•Why is Google still serving dodgy ads?English
18·19 days agoMoney. Criminals and immoral people pay good money to show these ads. At least for Facebook, a court case regarding identity fraud has established that they knew quite well which ads were fishy, so they just charged those advertisers more. If I remember correctly, that amounted to about 10% of Facebook’s revenue. It will be a similar case for Google, I assume. Sketchy ads pay too well to remove all of them and laws make it so the platform is only liable if they don’t take it down after receiving notice of every single sketchy ad. Google, Facebook, and the others are all well near monopoly and built deep moats, so they don’t really have to fear losing customers, because there’s no simple alternative.
Unpopular take: I actually found it pretty good. All characters got their screen time and the main characters all got a resolution that felt satisfying to me. The action scenes were good. I even liked the revelation of what the upside down really is, though I would’ve preferred a slightly different version of that explanation.
Wow, spooky. I may steal this as a cryptic clue for a private TTRPG campaign.

This is giving me strong Shadow over Innsmouth vibes. As if HG Wells and HP Lovecraft wrote a spin-off together, in which the Deep Ones rise to the shores in crystal-powered water-tank mechs, like the mermaids in Shadowrun.
