44·4 days agoMy parents hit a deer at 40mph with their Forester and it turned into pink mist. The only “mass” left of it was just a head. I have no doubt the CT is not as safe as regular vehicles, but I don’t think the outcome of object getting hit by something at 75mph is going to be an indicator of safety.

2·6 days agoEither I’m confused or perhaps you are. Bernie Sanders, while he happily had my vote a while back, is far past the need to retire. Hunter isn’t running for politics, and El-Sayed is behind in the polls. How are any of these people supposed to help?

politics @lemmy.world•Trump has amassed staggering wealth in ‘most openly corrupt’ presidency
14·6 days agoHe has set the precedent that presidents and their families can not only continue to run businesses while in office, but make governing decisions that lead to profit for those businesses. Oh, and getting payments for advertisements from the Resolute desk, and putting up paid advertisements on government property. Oh, and punish federal funding to states, companies, Universities, etc. for not following his executive orders, which are not laws, but are being treated as such.
The only way to remedy this, I figure, is to have a democrat in office do every. single. thing. he is doing in office, until each thing has a law created by the other branches of government to make it illegal going forward.

25·8 days agoYep. My wife was interested in watching the Odyssey. It would take ~5 hours, including travel, and about $75 for tickets, gas, and ONE snack and ONE drink. For that amount of money, we can buy pizza on the way home, buy/rent the movie, and watch it on our couch, AND do it again for a second movie, and still have money left over.
We are entering an age where impatience is a luxury. I can wait for the movie to be available for streaming.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Amid RAM price hikes, Microsoft reportedly raises Windows license cost, forcing OEMs to hike prices even further on hardwareEnglish
8·9 days agoFirst off, Microsoft clearly isn’t reading the room on where they stand in 2026 with Apple hardware and Linux gaming gaining traction.
Secondly, isn’t a Windows OEM license like $100? If it increases by “7-10%”, wouldn’t that just be $7-10? That wouldn’t drastically change the price of hardware shipping with Windows at all, and that’s if the manufacturers don’t just eat that cost.

5·22 days agoI don’t fully buy into the ‘both sides are the same’ argument. I do believe the two parties are not different enough though. Basic shit like universal healthcare, civil rights, taxing the wealthy by closing loopholes, etc. should be what the left is doing in my opinion.

11·23 days agoI think it’s funny how all companies immediately shifted from customer-facing to business and wealthy investors as their new customers. They don’t care about us at all, only that their stock goes up. A massive amount of former consumers are effectively broke, so businesses are relying on each other to boost their stocks. Not sure how that plays out long-term.

7·23 days agoHasn’t drone warfare been in use in other conflicts for several years now (I’m thinking of Ukraine but maybe there are other examples)? Why hasn’t the military developed a solution to this yet? Where did the multiple trillions of our taxpayer dollars go if that spending wasn’t used to prepare for modern warfare?
I agree with you on all points. We shouldn’t be there. Cut the military budget in half. We don’t truly need that large of a military presence. We have nukes as a defensive deterrent.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Three developers' different philosophies on difficulty for their games
2·25 days agoI think it’s a valid argument. For example, if someone wants to read Shakespeare but they aren’t a strong reader, you could provide a simpler version, while acknowledging it isn’t as originally intended. It allows for accessibility for a larger audience while not changing the experience for others. You wouldn’t tell someone to read a different story genre instead. This isn’t tools, where we have to bend the laws of physics, it’s changing some numbers in a database, and something already done for higher level difficulty settings, so just allow a version that is easier. No one is forcing anyone to play it that way.
That the person they belong to is a dick.
