So when I was a child, my dad was a violent, alcoholic, asshole. And for a long time, that’s the only perspective I had of him. Now that I’m older and there are children around me, I can appreciate that he, for all of his glaring faults, was always present. Some dads aren’t that way. He was always there and always held us accountable and always to a high standard: nothing ever slipped.

In my case, the penalty inflicted for not meeting those standards was terrible… but as an adult I can have respect and some admiration for a father who makes time everyday to interact with his child, help them be aware of his or her responsibilities, and help the child meet them.

IMO, tracks are community centers and have nothing to do with what c/fuckcars is all about.

Goals:
1. Remove dangerous drivers from our streets
2. Promote safe, certified micromobility while curbing dangeours devices and riding behavior
3. Encourage safer travel through walking, transit, micromobility, and car-share over private automobile use
4. Discourage oversized vehicles and prepare for new vehicle techologies
5. Expand and maintain safety-focused street designs
6. Cultivate a safety culture through education, enforcement, and shared responsibility
7. Leverage emerging data, technology, and analysis for smarter interventions
8. Lead by example with the safest municipal fleet in the nation

I feel like #5 ought to be swapped with #2 and this feels like an overall reasonable direction.

Maybe a decade ago ago I lived in a small town where the local chamber of commerce worked with the city to fight against the opening of a restaurant catering to a foreign ethnicity in a prime location on main street. This reminds me of that.

I hear you and don’t really think “more expensive” is something car mfgs care about ATM. If anything, that’s a feature for them. i think average price of a new car is about $50k

I mean, without AM… the options become FM and 5G/WWW. FM is a known quantity and the WWW is waayy worse than AM: the Klan broadcasts over the WWW.

In NYC metro area, I regularly listen to sports radio and NPR on AM. Sure, there’s other stuff too but I don’t tune into it. It’s the best place to get live Yankees broadcasts and coverage of the Giants, Mets, Jets, Nets, Knicks, Islanders, and Rangers.

Once a year I go to the local library and print some blank 1040s and other tax documents, costs me like $2 in print fees. Nobody (except maybe Ratheon) wants weapons in space. Can we make tax season more efficient instead? For example, gov sends a tax bill that one either pays or disputes rather than forcing everyone to calculate a number they already have?

Folks can contact the NYS Legislature and express their concerns with this proposal and recommend using tax dollars in a way that helps more New Yorkers. Some ideas could be repairing deficient bridges, or reducing sewage dumped into the Hudson River, or paying teachers more… but don’t listen to me, one ought to tell his or her legislator what’s important to he or she.

So… let’s build out better transit?
