  • Obviously I’d prefer to pay in crypto directly but some of the stores I shop in don’t accept it yet. In person I can pay in cash but shopping privately online is a different story. Gift cards are the next best option, and thanks to them I can use the self checkout scanner and online stores without my purchasing history being tracked. It also allows me to store my savings in a hard asset that can’t be easily confiscated, frozen, inflated or stolen, that I can permissionlessly spend whenever I need to, that no one knows how much of or if I have, that if needs be I can flee the country with in an instant without worry that it will be sized or lost. And it gives me the freedom to not be at the mercy of the banking system and just take their debit card fee, debit card issuance fee, debit card replacement fee, transfer fee, deposit fee, overdraft fee, underdraft fee, too little money fee, account having fee, fuck you what you gonna do fee…

  • Yes, the smart ones will start by learning the rules and training with friends/family in an empty parking lot, then once they grasp the basics they’ll move on to driving short distances to home/school/work under the guidance of an experienced driver. Once they memorize the road they’ll be able to drive by themselves until they feel comfortable enough to try a different route… Basically do the same things they would to train for the test, just without the cost and the time limit.

The dumb ones will do dumb shit no matter how many guardrails you put in front of them, especially if they’re legal and not physical. If someone won’t think twice before getting into a 2 ton bullet they have no idea how to safely operate because the prospect of pulling out in front of a semi or ending up in a ditch or wrapped around a tree don’t scare them then tickets, jail or other legal trouble certainly won’t either.

  • I think driving tests should be abolished, 30h of driving lessons will not teach you how to drive, it will at best teach you how to pass the test. You only actually learn how to drive properly after passing the test by driving by yourself, so the driving test proves nothing, it only gives you a false impression of your own abilities.

And to the people who disagree; how many idiots with licenses are on the road? How many idiots with suspended licenses are on the road? How many idiots without licenses are on the road? Did the law stop them? No. Because it’s a classic example of a law that only affects the people who didn’t need to be told to behave in the first place; and all of those who it should apply to the most will just ignore it. As it stands this law only further disenfranchises low income families by adding extra cost to their children’s path to adulthood and provides minimal to negative safety benefit.

  • No, I really don’t think that ~50% of the population is “pro-life” because they hate women and want to force young girls to raise babies. If that was the case, why would they be ok with girls giving up their kids for adoption? Surely they’d want that delegalized too. Besides, if you hate women and want to see them suffer, there’s got to be an easier, more efficient way that will result in even greater harm.

Your comment is a “pro-choice” equivalent of a “pro-lifer” saying that everyone “pro-choice” is a satanic pedophile who wants to murder babies for their own amusement.

I know exactly what your comment is supposed to be. A moral superiority circle jerk based on an illogical, unsubstantiated, unrealistic premise. You’re not supposed to question it or push back against it, you’re supposed to just go along with it so that everyone can nod along and feel good about themselves.

Let’s be honest now, everyone knows what the whole “pro-life” and “pro-choice” debate is about. Both sides think that taking away a part of a woman’s bodily autonomy is bad and that killing the life developing inside her isn’t as meaningless as killing a fruit fly or getting your tonsils removed. But from the “pro-lifers” point of view, banning abortion is the lesser of two evils because the alternative is killing something that they believe to be a baby, while from the “pro-choicers” point of view, allowing abortion is the right choice because it’s kinda sorta not really a baby yet, so forcing a girl to do something she doesn’t want to do just to save this maybe baby isn’t the right call.

This is a 100% accurate representation of each point of view, and any notion that any significant part of either movement supports it for any other reason is absolutely batshit fucking insane. (I almost never make categorical statements like this, but I really mean it here.)

The only reason why I engaged with not just your comment but this post at all is to push back against this “the more radical and extremist, the better and ideologically superior” emperor’s new clothes style no true Scotsman crap. I hope that the people reading this will be able to find some sense in themselves and admit, if not publicly, at least internally where the truth lies in this situation.
