Today, I’m just an opinionated Canadian writer with time on my hands. The world is a different place today, including the Donald Trump saga that ‘keeps on giving.’ That alone gives me lots to write and comment on. Check out more of my stories at … flippen.ca

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump: Canada ‘trying to illegally influence’ Supreme Court on tariffs
6·11 days ago**** Look who is calling the kettle black???

Canada@lemmy.ca•Ottawa limits how many American vehicles Stellantis and GM can import tariff-free
2·11 days agoTesla was boycotted by Canadian consumers, and I’m sorry to say, ‘and with a lot of sadness,’ this will be my last GM product in my driveway. As a trucker once said, “How do you like me now?”
I don’t know why Trump is whining; that ad was heard by millions of U.S. citizens years ago. Today it’s only an expensive rerun but on by the Ontario government. What’s the problem?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump says he's terminating trade negotiations with Canada over Ontario anti-tariff ad
43·12 days agoHe is not a politician with grace; he is a whiner with a baby attitude, one who also gets mad when he doesn’t get his own way. All I can say is, what a sad situation the Americans are in.
What I don’t understand is, if a crown corporation is losing billions of dollars, someone is not doing their job. Roll some heads, starting with Doug Ettinger, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Canada Post,
There is always more to the story, but Trump will be basking in his glory. I told ya Canada was …!!!

Canada@lemmy.ca•Microsoft says U.S. law takes precedence over Canadian data sovereignty
5·2 months agoThe proof is in what you say goes back a few years, when the United States Government issued a legal request to Blackberry cellphones to divulge client information, and they said ‘flat out … no.’ Today they are no longer a cell company. however, Microsoft complied, and you know where they are today. Take that any way you want, but I’m just glad I live in Canada.
this is not surprising, the Federal and Provincial governments ‘decommissioned and surplus’ auction house is run by the American firm. They seem to get first dibs on items and with the 30 percent exchange rate.

Canada@lemmy.ca•A Maine politician sent Canadians an unprompted offer to join the US
3·3 months agoYour letter is a perfect example of what many Canadians find so deeply troubling about the American worldview; 'they do not have a clue what’s going on in their own country.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Hell freezes over as Danielle Smith calls for an end to tariffs on Chinese EVs
6·3 months agoRemember the Huawei episode when Canada was holding true to our “friends” in the south. The US requested Canada to hold Meng Wanzhou, on ‘bogus’ charges. Of course, we did not know that at the time. The US President played Canada against China like a fine-tuned guitar. Today, the Chinese are still pissed with Canada after choosing the wrong friends and they should be pissed. Chinese EVs, maybe.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Premier Doug Ford's government is ordering Ontario public servants to work from the office four days a week starting this fall and then full-time in January
2·3 months agoI like Ford however, for the young families working from home, it must have been a bonus and not taking your kids to child care. But that’s my point, he should have had more licensed child care facilities in place FIRST before demanding back to the office ruling. Now, what do they do when there is a waiting list as long as your arm?

Canada@lemmy.ca•Is Nova Scotia going too far by banning people from woods during dry weather? Some think so
1·3 months agoWe can’t fix stupid. Most problems we have are people-oriented, which means we cannot trust people to be responsible at this time, ‘especially in the dry wooded area.’ The answer is simple: abide by the rules; it’s in everyone’s best interest. End of story!

Canada@lemmy.ca•Canada wildfire season already second worst on record as experts warn of ‘new reality’
10·3 months agoIt’s reported that ‘although dry weather contributed’, stupid people and unattended campfires are the main cause of these out-of-control fires.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Path cleared for Canada to take part in Trump’s 'Golden Dome' missile shield
7·3 months agosorry folks, I don’t agree, 'destroy incoming missiles aimed at North America is not totally correct, Missiles aimed at the US and shot down over Canada is more correct. Any map would show that any hostility would go over Canada’s airspace first on its way south. Normally, I would not comment on NORAD or the golden dome that Canada will be spending large on. But I am kinda peeved at the US at the moment.

Did you know many of our politicians have dual US-Canada citizenship papers? Some days I have to wonder, what side are they really on?
