unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.deto World News@lemmy.world•UK condemns Hong Kong cash offer for help in arresting activistsEnglish20·1 day agoThe fucking audacity to do this while branding activists in the UK as terrorists. The UK had a chance to intervene in the Hong Kong situation before it got this bad and they let that chance pass without doing shit.

Trump’s conspiratorial base are hugely and reliably animated by stories about impunity for elite sex predators. As well they should be! Elite sex predators get away with all kinds of crimes – not just Epstein, but the whole universe of powerful men, from Harvey Weinstein to Donald Trump, who systematically abused women for decades and got away with it – bragged about it, even!
But despite these very real abusers, the conspiracists in the Trump base are mostly concerned with imaginary abusers – Qanon’s shadowy cabal of adrenochrome-guzzling pedophiles, tirelessly freighting trafficked children from one nonexistent pizza parlor basement to the next, packed inside of very mid Wayfair home furnishings:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/07/05/ideomotor-response/#qonspiracy
This is the “mirror world” of right wing conspiracism described in Naomi Klein’s Doppelganger:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/05/not-that-naomi/#if-the-naomi-be-klein-youre-doing-just-fine
It’s the world in which real suffering children (kids in cages, children rotting in Alligator Auschwitz, kids working the night-shift at a meat-packing plant) don’t matter at all, while imaginary children (unborn children, Qanon victims, etc) take center stage.

He said she did not hold anything back.
She didnt list the names of offenders or anything like that. She just responded to their questions about 100 people.

They are talking about a US monopoly on media delivery and by extension censorship. This is a very valid concern considering how Musk and Zuckerberg are buddies with Trump. Basically they want to prevent US election interference. Just yesterday there were articles about Zohran Mamdani (NYC mayoral candidate) being temporarily banned from Instagram for not having political opinions that serve US interests.
They are selling it as a way to boost local media (movie production) companies, but its pretty clear to me that its related to the US trade war.

I dont think you understand how many mentally unstable people out there are using LLMs as therapists.
There are fuckloads of cases now of people that were genuinely misled by LLMs into doing horrible things.
I agree with your sentiment, but the thing is that the companies are selling their shit as gold and not as shit. If they were honest about their stuff being shit, then people wouldnt be able to capitalize off of malicious prompt engineering. If you claim “we made it super safe and stuff” then you are inviting people to test that.
I would generally not make companies responsible for how users misuse their products, but OpenAI is basically doing everything to get people to misuse it. They are overselling it so hard i think its reasonable to sue them for it.
