Sunset. If I ever see a sunrise, it’s from the wrong end and my night has either been terrible or exhausting.

I got a surprise rank promotion in the martial art I do. I learned about it via an organizational email. Past a certain point promotions are for contributions to the community and don’t require an actual test; I didn’t think I was doing anything that special, but looking back I can see some of the things that I’ve been doing to help out.

How does execution help the victims?

It sounds like you subscribe to a retributive justice point of view. It’s not the only way people view the purpose of a justice system. These are not a simple ideas that can be dismissed in a single reductive sentence; they are complex ideas that are worth your time and thought. Please consider what you think the justice system is for, how it could be different, and why you have the ideas that you currently do.
