politics @lemmy.world•Jeffries says Dems who saved GOP’s agenda deserve ‘serious response’
64·2 days agoControlled opposition. The only reason Politico is picking up on this. Democratic infighting serves a very specific purpose.

News@lemmy.world•ICE hasn’t paid for detainee medical care since October. Advocates call it the ‘death policy’
32·2 days agoAuschwitz/Dachau/Treblinka light. Next step? Who knows, there is absolutely no bottom to this pit as it seems.
Have you ever managed a project as large as this? I think we can give him some leeway here. If you invite people to help on your project that is worth quadrillions, but is open-source, you have to be hardened enough. And Linus is just a well rounded person who doesn’t play politics, that’s what I learned from 30 years following that dude. I have to admit, he is a diver, so I am a little bit biased on his personality type (btw, so is Gabe, but he is doing it on a much larger scale now). Anyway, give this guy some space, he is doing good work that we all need to appreciate more.

pics@lemmy.world•First known picture of coyote catching roadrunner
19·2 days agoI call AI because I watched TV in the 90s and learned that it is not possible for a coyote to catch a bird. It is a fact and I will die with that universal knowledge. Despite the other fact that one is a ferocious predator and the other one is a stupid bird.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's your most common fear? Not the greatest, but the one that you face most times in a day?
5·11 days agoI always assume that other people have no control over their vehicle and that they will eventually kill me, especially when I’m on foot and someone backs up or drives slowly towards me. Very irrational fear but I do not trust people in tanks.
You can put cucumber in almost anything that is not cooked, doesn’t matter if sweet or savoury. Cucumber-Apple-Salad with a nice sweet and sour yoghurt vinaigrette is the bomb.
walk with a signalling light attached to the top of his helmet
That was me in 2001 during basic training (one of the last conscripts in Germany). When we marched to the firing range I had to wear a blinky light right on my helmet. It was embarrassing, but so is the whole service if you are not really into that stuff.

Cooking @lemmy.world•Surprise, you now have 2 fresh kohlrabi in your hands, what do you do?
2·25 days agoI remember a dish from my childhood with cooked Kohlrabi, I think it was some kind of stew with meat and potatoes. They are pretty good cooked, but I prefer them raw as well. Fresh from the garden - nothing better. Maybe garden radish.

Books@lemmy.world•I want to read, but I dont know how to find my type of books.
42·1 month agoTalk to your local librarian. They know everything and more. Or join a book club, in person not online. Check out some small book stores and talk to the owners. They still exist, you just have to find them.

World News@lemmy.world•The verdict is in: Canadians hate America thanks to TrumpEnglish
46·1 month agoI ask myself for quite some time now: where are Americas young people? In most countries, if something goes as wrong as in America at the moment, the first who respond with protests are the students. Just check out India. But in the US there are only a few local protest about the middle east. No mass protests, not even discussions as far as I can tell. Why is that?
Almost 4k hours in ARK: Survival Evolved. I was one of the 10 players playing it on Linux, with a total conversion mod that was abandoned shortly after the dev was hired by Wildcard. I hated that game…but it was so addictive.
