Why should I be mad they have ads? (To be clear, I strongly dislike seeing ads, it’s why I’m paying.)
Suppose YouTube wasn’t part of Google and it was some mom and pop operation - they still need to make money to stay open right? They’re not doing this just for kicks. So they could charge membership or they could show ads. I’m opting for the membership route.
It isn’t just the ads. its that the whole platform needs to constantly grow and increase its revenue, so overtime we have more ads, more unskipable ads, more mid video ads, more ad block restrictions, worsening of algorithms so it maximizes view time and ad revenue rather than user satisfaction…
it just keeps getting worse and worse.
Then they make even more money by selling a subscription. So they are interested in making it more unusable without subscription.
It’s true I’d rather see the same service be provided by some non monopoly rather than Google. But all in all I get to see a lot of fascinating content with ease.
I pay for YouTube so I don’t see ads, I’m pretty happy with it.

Isn’t it the video creator’s choice to include paid promotion? That’s not a Google enshittification problem.
I don’t pay for youtube, never will and thanks to ublock origin I also don’t see ads.
I also use ublock origin. Worth it for me because of mobile app and Roku playback.
If you are happy with it, you should still be upset with google. they were the ones who bought YouTube to puts ads on it.

There is no end to it’s enshitification.
The algorithm is still absolute garbage and it’s hard to browse to find anything you might be interested in.
My algorithm is amazing. I have more woodworking, home automation and tech videos in my watch later to last a year.
