Very mildly interesting fact, some owls in English are not owls in French, mostly because of physical differences.

Owls in French are hiboux but only if they have the little pointy ears on their heads. Otherwise they are chouettes.

For example the barred owl in English is the chouette rayée in French.

Usually it’s reverse, with English making a difference between turtle and tortoise while it’s all tortues in French. Or between apes and monkeys while in French they are all singes. But for this one, apparently the little tufts on their heads make them owls, or not, in French.
