So they’re importing a bunch of racists from South Africa. Who will vote for fascist Rs. Isn’t that what they accuse Ds of doing?

How long does it take to go through the refugee process to become a citizen? They can’t vote until then, right?

I mean now we’re just in fantasy land. No one has offered the option to buy citizenship like that. Trump offered to let people buy green cards or whatever fancy name he gave them (still a green card).

After that it takes at minimum 5 years. No indication that is being sped up in any way for anyone. It’s not even possible to speed it up under current law, not that the administration wouldn’t try. But in this case they’ve given no indication of doing so.

The green card thing was really just a pathetic attempt to collect revenue since taxes have been slashed to untenable levels. Wealthy people wouldn’t even want citizenship. They vote with money, not with ballots.

Not that these Boers are really rich or anything and there’s not enough of them to effect voting even if they could. This is virtue signalling to white supremacists. In fact I’d bet a lot of them will leave soon or end up homeless. They’re being brought in without any plans or preparation and no job opportunities waiting for them. Their usefulness to the Trump admin is merely as a photo prop and then they’re on their own.

But oh well sucks to suck. Hope you all end up homeless back in South Africa too because a black family moved into your house while you were gone.

Using the max number from the article of 17,500 people, that’s not enough to make any real difference. Maybe if they went through a major effort to settle them in one or two close congressional districts.

Also they can’t vote for at least 5 years after they arrive assuming they all rush to get their citizenship.

Agreed, we don’t know that they are racist. Like most anywhere, you are very likely to find a mix of both racist, anti-racist, and everyone in between. However, given relatively recent historical context, they are likely to have a higher proportion of racists with a higher degree of severity.

Man, I watched The Second Civil War for the first time a couple months ago, and thought it was kind of an interesting take on what issues might be prevalent today. I thought the mass immigration of certain groups to appease political groups seemed a little far fetched though. I guess nothing is satire anymore. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Second_Civil_War

because they don’t need refugee status. They’re utilizing this as loop hole to circumvent proper methods of immigration. you know like the people who literally pay thousands of dollars to properly immigrate to the US. These people aren’t fleeing anything remotely close to an emergency or crisis they’re simply immigrating while saving a few bucks in the process.

This is also a very easy way for the current administration to bring in more white people who share the same views and opinions of said administration. it’s text book fascism. kick out the colored bring in the right white.

          1. They are not refugees, they should immigrate the normal (expensive) way like everyone else and not get a free ride on the American tax payer’s dollar. Especially when we have, what, 30,000 refugees from south of the border living in warehouses awaiting a chance to legally immigrate. 50,000? 100,000? Probably even more than that.

          2. They’re escaping South Africa with fortunes made by exploiting the people of South Africa and will suffer no consequences in the US. They stand at least some chance of being punished in their own country (even more so if they’re running like this, seems like they can feel the noose tightening), and their money would stay in South Africa to help the country in such a case instead of disappearing into the offshore haven of the US.

          3. They’re friends of people like Musk and Trump, and allowing them to more easily use their money to affect American policy will be worse not just for the US, but the world at large. Letting people with experience running an apartheid regime into the politics of a belligerent war hungry government who has already threatened numerous friendly countries over resources cannot end well.

There isn’t an emergency. These are racists kicking our brown people who are following the law (ICE wouldn’t be camping outside of immigration courts to abduct people if they actually wanted those breaking the law) and letting in white people just to rub it in.

The problem is that we have quite literally cut off refugees from every other country, including places that actually need it. These people are fleeing a made up crisis.

      https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g89kkvenqo

US has let in 4,499 refugees since October - all but three were South African

(As of April, so obviously more SA “refugees” now)
