I’ve read books published before I was even born. That’s one of the cool things about how books work.

Well, yes, hence “originate”. I’m saying that this quote was around before Hendrix ever could’ve thought of it himself, not that he didn’t say it (necessarily; my understanding is that we also don’t have solid attribution to Hendrix, but there’s no strong reason to doubt it imo).

Edit: Oh, you read that as “somewhere else other than this book”. I meant generally “heard it from somewhere and then repeated it.” Although since you bring that up, I’d argue it’s vanishingly unlikely he ever read “The National Elementary Principal” (1948). It shows up in Forbes the same year, where it’s remotely plausible he read it. Most likely, though, it was just circulating around.

I misunderstood your last sentence. I had interpreted it to mean he heard it from somewhere other than the book.

Yuuuup, I was just editing my comment after realizing that. That was 100% my bad; I didn’t even consider that reading. Although I do explain why that’s probably also true.
