Palantir and Nuclear Company will jointly create the nuclear operating system (NOS), which will simplify construction, allowing the firm to build plants faster and at lower cost.

The deal follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive orders that aimed to boost U.S. nuclear energy production amid a boom in demand from data centers and AI.

The orders, signed in May, direct the nation’s independent nuclear regulatory commission to cut down on regulations and fast-track new licenses for reactors and power plants.

Like ok sure it’s stupid, but I can understand companies are dumb/evil and will chase the quick buck of the AI craze. But Jesus fuck, using it for nuclear construction? At least some of the AI hype peddlers must take a pause at this news, if only privately. Like someone in the company has to know if this were to actually happen they will be liable for a nuclear accident right? Or are they just hoping smarter ppl/regulation will catch them before anyone dies

Safety-critical design is absolutely one of the worst applications of AI. There is no way to validate the design, AI doesn’t provide sound rationales for its “decisions.”
