Last january Nicaragua’s national assembly approved the plan to reform the constitution to create a people’s democracy. It’s been six months since that news so I’m curious how far along they are now with implementing this.

Is there a pro-govt Nicaraguan news site where I can keep up to date btw?

It is already implemented. You can find more information on this document(it’s in Spanish though): https://gacetasandinista.com/diplomado-transformaciones-evolucionarias-en-45-anos-de-luz/

    1. To have democratic mechanisms of representation to participate in the representative positions at all levels, in the exercise, control and oversight of public management. In all public, economic and social instances should have representations of ethnic, rural and urban groups and with an equitable representation of men and women

Another good chapter to understand the structure is the Municipal government chapter where it explains how the councils work.

Personally I’d say there’s no way for us to know until we start seeing tangible policies show up. You can restucture the govt all day, but until you start feeding, housing, and clothing, people. And treating the sick effectively. It’s impossible to judge if it will work out. Stuff like that takes time too. Over the next 10 years if quality of life improves there, or doesnt, then that’ll let us know how it’s going.
