I pack up full hard drive images from time to time (think 100GB+ files). More threads is always welcome!
FTA: The standard income deduction has been increased for seniors such that 90% will have their Social Security income completely covered by the deduction, meaning they won’t pay taxes on that income.
Edit: Crossed out a word.
Linux isn’t stable enough to do production work
Linux runs most of the world’s servers. It’s pretty damn stable. One of the reasons it is generally chosen over Windows for servers is specifically because of its stability.
I’m not telling you to use it, mostly just this concept of instability is off.
According to Steam: in the last 3 years there has been 150% growth in Linux users
Steam deck.
The Steam deck is less than 10% of Steam’s linux installs. It identifies as Arch, and that category also includes Arch, which is a popular distro in general. The 150% growth in Linux users is certainly helped by the Steam Deck, but it isn’t the primary growth driver. People are simply using Linux more and more as Linux continues to improve and Windows backslides.
From Steam’s hardware survey:
you can safely use Windows 10 PCs connected to the internet for the next decade.
Do not, absolutely do not, hook an OS that is no longer receiving security updates to the internet. Out-of-date machines can get pwned simply by being on a network or loading a website’s ad, no user interaction required. Vulnerabilities are discovered, never patched, and thereafter every script kiddy can get into the old machines with little effort.

And according to Pornhub, in 2024 there was a 41% growth in Linux users.
I don’t think there is a Steam entry for the game, but you can install it with Lutris, which does the setup for you. I don’t actually play the game, so I can’t speak much more about it.
And the most “bloatware” are just windows apps
The Windows 11 Pro edition at my work had an entry for Whatsapp in the start menu after a fresh install…
This “Pro” edition had a popup ad for one of Microsoft’s games pushed as a notification. Literally a popup ad for a game coming from the Professional edition of Windows. Something my company paid extra for.
I have 0 “ai integration” on my PC.
I’m constantly playing wack-a-mole with Copilot. It’s even in Notepad by default…
Yeah, there is a reason my home PCs are all Linux Mint.
Looking to buy a new home right now, and every time I see one of those I see a multi-month project in my future to remove all that crap. Because I know they aren’t going to do it themselves…

It was discovered in pre-history, and almost certainly independently by many, many individuals. You aren’t going to get a name on it.
Thank you. :)
Two US Democratic senators were just assassinated
Which Senators?
Edit: Looked it up, appears to be State Rep. Hortman (was confused as ‘US Senator’ means Senator to the federal Senate, not state-level House representative). Can’t find a second assassination though.
Fun fact in all party consent states consent is obtained merely by notifying the other party that the call is being recorded
And almost all calls with a company will start with a line about ‘recording the call for quality purposes’. Well, both parties consented after that point, record away!
Poor customer support is the #1 thing that will get me to stop using a service/buying future products. Everybody fucks up, what matters most is what happens next. If they make the problem right with little hassle, why bother switching?
Yeah, it’s very unlikely it survived.
If you have your encryption key backed up, you have a chance to decrypt it still. It’s also possible, but unlikely, the key somehow survived the ISO write and it was written elsewhere on the drive, allowing the key to be recovered. I would only trust such with a professional. (There is basically a smaller encrypted section that your typed-in password decrypts, that section contains the encryption key the rest of the drive uses.)
Honestly though, if you have your stuff backed up (you do have your stuff backed up elsewhere?!?), just restore from your backup and call this a loss.
If you don’t have a backup, this was your wakeup call. Always have a backup going forward.
Yeah, I’m confused on what else the Pentagon would be spending money on.
