Shouldn’t get kids because you might need them when you’re old. Chances are, you’ll hear from them once every couple months because they have their own lives to deal with.

I’ve been told for years I’m overreacting about international politics, Fascism spreading in USA, Climate change, and lately, Fascism spreading in Europe.
I am so fucking sick of being right all the time, but I just can’t stop. Everything keeps getting worse. It’s like we’ve all adopted Russia’s political roadmap: “Everything fucking sucked, and then it got worse”.

9·5 days agoPossibly, question is which one fits a given area the best. Pumped hydro needs some place high to pump it. Many places are incredibly flat, but in hilly or mountainy places it has some clear advantages. Thermal has the issue of losing the heat. You need to insulate a “battery” a lot, and at some point it just becomes incredibly expensive for very little results. It’s not impossible, but it can be a very expensive solution. LiFePO4 has the drawback of needing lithium, which is pretty rare in most of the world. If what the article says is true, the “water battery” seems to be pretty inexpensive to build with quite available ressources, but the drawback is that it likely needs more space than other options.
Mentally I still feel like I’m 18. Not sure that’s ever really going to change though.

52·5 days agoCould be decent. Has about 20-25% energydensity of a modern NMC EV battery. While that isn’t incredibly groundbreaking, keeping a building sized battery of this kind in an industrial area sounds pretty feasible.
Probably won’t ever hear about it again, but fingers crossed it’s a good product.

5·5 days agoBefore and during the primaries is exactly where these issues should be highlighted. Both to find the candidates with as few dead bodies in their closet as possible, but also to force the candidates to publicly address these issues.
That’s a really big part of the issue to me. How many people does people here know, that are still together with their high school girlfriend/boyfriend? I’m not saying it doesn’t happen, but a LOT changes throughout the 20’s.
Breaking into the goat petting area at the zoo.
I like the fact that I can generate a varying voltage in a long copper wire that induces the same varying voltage in another long copper wire somewhere halfway around the world with no cell towers or satellites.
That does make it sound pretty fucking cool tbh.
I’m quite currious (not enough to get into the hobby) what does one do with Ham radio? Is it just talking to other people over the radio or what?

News@lemmy.world•Gasoline costs 50% more in the US than it did before the Iran war
36·11 days agoTo be completely fair to the americans complaining about fuel prices though. European prices are by design. Prices increasef in the 70’s during the oil crisis, and afterwards we kept them high through taxation. We did that to give a larger incentive to oil reducing behavior like buying a car that drives longer per liter, or insulating your house better. This was to reduce our dependance in oil so another crisis wouldn’t hit as hard.
USA didn’t do that, because USA has/had plenty oil to support itself, and those regulations would mean less oil sales and thus less money for the giant oil companies. Wouldn’t wanna take money out of the wallets of the poor rich cunts right?
So in short, Europe voted for less oil dependance because we don’t produce a lot of it, USA voted for more, because their rich cunts have always controlled the government.

4·12 days agoHow does this corrospond with growth? I imagine having 100% uptime is much harder the bigger a platform is, so did Github grow a lot in the same period?
I’m not questioning wether or not Microsoft has issues, I just find it relevant wether or not they very suddenly saw a 2000% increase in server usage or something.
It infuriates me how so many people seem to think the epstein files are worse than bombing civilians.
Yes, Trump deserves to hang for everything he has to do with the case. Even if we assume he is completely innocent, he has still at bare minimum covered up for countless abusers.
But that doesn’t mean partaking in a genocide and murdering civilians in a war of agression isn’t worse.
For anyone curious, that’s in Aalborg airport in Denmark. And no, no one is timing your kiss.
