  • I believe they got hate before but it really exploded when they exposed that the Democrats were paying TikTok creators to spread good PR without disclosing that they were, in fact, being paid to do so. This made many people come out to attack them and it just never stopped. Now that they know Madeline exists they attack everything she says. The most recent discourse has been about Madeline’s defence of the DPRK.

She called out a leftist creator because he was supporting state department propaganda about the DPRK and now everybody is running around claiming that Madeline said that this guy was directly killing North Koreans when what she was actually saying is that he was contributing to USA state lies that harm the North. This shit will never stop and thankfully Madeline has thick skin.

  • Snowed like crazy and it was cold as hell but I slayed at the party games. My niece and nephew loved their gifts but they did get into a few toddler fist fights which I had to break up. The food was also fantastic and I brought home a large casserole dish full of leftovers.

Some of my family were annoying but that’s normal coming from those specific individuals, I just had to do my best to ignore them. It wasn’t even political, just them arguing and also poking fun at me because it’s easy.

  • Gross is the perfect word to describe the feeling. Because it’s bad enough to hear these sentiments from other people (classmates, colleagues, random podcasters, etc.) but to hear come from people you’re related too? There’s just an extra layer of grosses added on.

I also, weirdly enough, have a DJT supporter in my family but I’ve also successfully pivoted conversations with them to avoid politics since last time that happened we got into a screaming match where I was forced to apologize.

Sometimes people know better and are just spoiling for a fight.

Again, this is the perfect explanation. I know that they know I’m right but they just want to fight. They hate to admit that they’re wrong so they’ll keep pushing until they have nothing else left to argue, and then just stop without admitting their faults. It’s very annoying and exhausting.

  • It was one of the most painful things I had to sit through and this happens at almost every single family gathering. This is the first time communism has ever been uttered, but at every other event there’s complaints about immigrants and/or trans people. There is also weird glazing over Portugal and apologia for slavery. So it is something I go through very often but never get used to.

I have one year left of undergrad and then will have a few months off before I can start my masters. It’ll be so nice once I can finally stand on my own, preferably in a different country too. Thank you for the well wishes comrade, it means a lot!

  • Correct, but she hates them for the wrong reasons lol. She’s just pissed that Mark Carney of the Liberal party won instead of Pierre Poilievre of the Conservative Party (Canadian politics).

My aunt’s political knowledge is based on our parties and vibes. She doesn’t know what liberalism and conservatism actually means. She just hates that our liberal party is not explicitly racist or transphobic. She does not understand that the Conservatives are the exact same regarding every policy ever. She just hears liberal and thinks of trans people.

  • This was a depressing read. I knew things were bad, especially with the popularity of Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, but I am still so shocked anyway. The fact that people are being fed the idea that Hitler was right is very scary.

I do not know the extent of anti-semitism and pro-Axis sentiments up here in Canada, but considering some of our leaders are best friends with Carlson, PragerU, and other fascists, that does not paint a very good picture.

If a third world war happens we know where the evil is coming from.

  • I do not think you overstepped at all and I appreciate your insight. It seems your seminar classes work the same as mine and everything you described reflects what I read on the syllabus. I will try to engage with the students as calmly as possibly, like you said, and might default to my neutral voice.

I do overthink and catastrophize a lot. My main fear has always been about students finding out that I am a Marxist-Leninist.

I will take your advice and push through as much as I can and communicate with my professor.
