It really sucks because there are some core ideas that are really nice, completely overshadowed by the country’s terrible behavior. The things we were led to believe about ourselves in school would make for a genuinely good society. The secularism, multiculturalism, access to opportunity, many freedoms beyond reproach, etc. Our leaders have for centuries now talked about these and still mostly failed to deliver.
Well that’s on all of us, but given the outsized influence of the rich, I’m happy to shirk much of our responsibility onto them.

I don’t think you had a choice in the matter of oligarchs already having a million times more power than we could ever dream of having.
That is how they become oligarchs.
We just all need to stop thinking money has value or something.
I mean… In the theory of currency and exchange we understand that it doesn’t.
