As always, what comes out of narcissists is projection. The alcohol boycott is working. The California wine and Kentucky bourbon industries are in shambles and operating at a loss. Meanwhile north of the border we have our own wine and spirits, and we try to avoid everything US like the plague. We don’t want your moldy fruits and vegetables, or your antibiotics ladden meat, thank-you very much. The US on the other hand does need Canada. Not only as a market, but for vital resources like potash, energy imports, etc.
Partner and I have literally not bought produce when we noticed they were product of USA. Two years ago we were spending so much money on strawberries and raspberries from the USA. Now we’re spending that on fruits and veg grown literally anywhere else. We’ve even started going to different grocery stores that have differently sourced stuff specifically to avoid USA.

When we sell ninety percent of our oil to the states, we actually kind of need them too.
Not as much as they need the oil. Like, trade is always a symbiosis, but their sensitivity to loss on that one specific good is higher. Kind of like our sensitivity on auto parts or steel is higher.

We don’t sell oil, we sell a bitumen sludge that needs to be refined in Texas because no one in Alberta went past grade 9 science class.
These tariffs chicaned around potash, oil, aluminum, because they need that.
We actually do upgrade it to syncrude in Alberta, and some all the way to fuel. Getting it out of the ground, when it’s semi-frozen into sand, is also no small feat.
You can shit on Alberta for a lot of things, but “bad at chemistry” isn’t one of them.
If you took 9th grade science you would know that bitumen is a form of crude oil and then you wouldn’t have written this pretentious post making a point based purely in semantics.
Also, the bitumen is too thick to flow through pipes, if you tried to just ship it like that.
