Hey all, I’m a solo dev and I’ve been making a daily puzzle called Lie of Sight. Each case is a room seen from above and a family each says what they could see. One of them is lying. You place everyone using their sight lines and catch the liar. Grandma only sees two squares ahead and the dog goes by smell, so it’s spatial deduction more than reading clues. Free in the browser, no sign-up, new case every day.
If you like Clues by Sam or Murdle you might like it. Would love to know how it feels.
Dude, you forgot the link! https://lieofsight.com/
Really strange, I provided it in the form. I’m new to Lemmy’s! Thanks for telling me.

Is it slop? I couldn’t find any mention of ai anywhere.
The images of the people are inconsistent is the biggest tell.
Design decisions are odd and overengineerd. Thats more a gut feeling.
What do you mean by ‘inconsistent’? Yes the art is finalized by AI, but it’s from polishes of my own sketches. Do you mean that the board pieces are different from the logo? That’s intentional.
Please let me know what decisions are odd and overengineered from your view. I’ve intentionally added depth and complexity because most daily games lack any kind of real effort.
For reference, cyber background, prior code experience. I’ve put immense effort into the quality/security of the codebase.
Grandmas glasses make it look like she has either 2 noses or a big one with a nose ring.
The kids stripe stops arbriatary to indicate a single sleeve and the one of the propellor colors is the same as the background for the pawn graphic
Grandma being the only piece that can look diagonally is counter intuitive. The smell range for dog makes little sense of you know how dog smell works, it would actually work better for grandma.
I get you need pawns to do different things but it would honestly work better if it where just chess pieces rather then people.
The final drop was that after finnishing a puzzle correctly it will show you what you needed to change for a supposed final win state, which is not a objective and does not actually change annything from the actual end state.
Example of that: Why does it indicate boy needs to move one tile to the right? It does not change annything about the state of the board and i got the right answer.

What do those dotted lines indicate?
I never considered that the glasses may look that way, they’re intended to have the normal granny look of them being down toward the tip of the nose and her being leaned over. The kid’s sleeve is intended to be shading consistent with the rest of the characters, but agree it’s not executed very well and will try to fix both. His hat propellor is just made to be in the same idea as any propellor hat, and is a slightly different shade, but going to make it a bit clearer.
Grandma can see in all directions, but only a short distance each way, which is consistent with being old and not seeing very far. The other characters can see across the board. The dog’s strength is that he can “see” through walls with smell, but I have to nerf him somehow. There is also a cat character that gives the “side eye” and that character sees diagonally across the whole board. I have ideas for other characters, but I need to take creative liberty here. The family is intentional, I’d like to expand to different games using the same cast of characters eventually.
The dotted lines indicate areas where the liar cannot see/can see. The boy moving is because placement matters for a score bonus, but not for determining who the liar is. Going to try to clear all this up a bit more and definitely going to take the dotted lines off at least.
Thanks so much for your feedback, I appreciate you. It’s extremely difficult to get feedback from people despite a lot of people playing it consistently now. I know you are not a fan of any of the AI use, so you taking the time matters a lot and I appreciate it.
You’re welcome.
I didnt mean to dis your project that you provide for free. I was confronted with alot of slop at work recently so it kinda hit a wrong nerve at the wrong time.
No need to apologize. I get it. I mean I’m competing against a massive surge of absolute crap. I’ve already had bad copycats pop up.
I work in cyber. I see horrible AI slop constantly and it’s rage inducing.
Nevermind the security concerns…
Agree AI slop, the game board image even pixelated and broke up on a chromium based browser so, yeah.
To keep things fast on phones, the room pictures are pre-drawn at your screen’s resolution, and privacy-hardened browsers report a fake resolution, so they came out low-res and jagged. I’m going to work on fixing this ASAP. Sorry it looked broken!
May ask if you’re willing to test again for me after implementing, if you’d be willing?

should be fixed now. let me know if you run across it again
Man, I’d love to play this, but… Why does my browser need to be "verif[ied]?
Ironfox on Android. Does your game not support Gecko or is it WebGL dependent? Thanks for wanting to play, and sorry about that! It’s not your browser: the game is plain web pages with drawn SVG art, no WebGL, and it runs fine in Firefox. That “verify” screen is my web host’s bot check, and it’s being too strict with privacy-hardened browsers like IronFox. I’m turned it down. Give it another try and it should load straight in let me know if it doesn’t as you’re now my tester
Appreciate the quick fix. Is Anubis an option? Or Altcha?
screenshot of tutorial solution

Glad it works now! For now I don’t need either: the site is just the game, so I’ve switched the bot check to log-only and kept rate limits on the parts that save scores and accounts.
Anubis would mean putting my own proxy server in front of the site, which doesn’t fit how it’s hosted right now. Altcha is more my speed. If bots ever start hammering the sign-up or score forms, I’d rather put a quiet proof-of-work check like that on just those forms than make every visitor wait on a “verify” screen again. Thanks for the pointers!
Sounds and looks very interesting. Do you have a link for us so we can play? Post seems to only link to an image.
