…and why?
Excluding the obvious such as clothes and utensils.
Anything Technology Connections gets two of.
Penis ornaments. Why? Why the fuck not? Shout out to @[email protected] for the amazing wooden starship model.

I need more
I have the perfect place for you to make a pilgrimage to. In Sicily near the coastal beach resort town of Taormina there is a town atop of the nearby mountain called Castelmola. The trek up the mountain is amazing and the views are incredible. Your reward for the journey is in that town there is a bar called Bar Turrisi, this is your new bucket list destination.
Alternatively, they could go to one of the “penis temples” in Japan. I know that there is more than one, because a Google search turned up this one, and I have been to another in southern Osaka Prefecture.
The one that I went to was actually devoted to fertility and appeasing The souls of aborted/miscarried babies, but it had its fair share of penises as well.
I’ve too considered making a shelve for my penis shaped “ornaments.”
Shame to put something so aesthetically pleasing hidden away in a drawer - especially in my private bedroom where no outsider ever goes to.
But there’s no penis on the wooden starship :(
Trauma. I seem to collect it without even trying or wanting it. Like it just happens without my approval or wanting it.
Children
One is not enough. You need two so they can play with each other and leave you alone.
But more than that is insane.
Yeah if I had more than one other sibling, I would be too annoyed
Guess.

What is that fancy shelf system? 😮
The backplane is the rather popular 3D printable Honeycomb Wall system. The angled divider trays are my own design which is compatible with the same.
Oh wow, you’re not kidding about it being popular. That page of add ons went on forever!
Very cool, and your design looks great as well.
I only have my faithful Ontario Rat, but we’re practically inseparable!
Another popular storage solution is Gridfinity
Oh I went down the rabbit hole all day yesterday on this stuff!
Multiboard was pretty cool too.
If I had a 3d printer it’d be running non-stop right now 😄
Obligatory:

Have you by chance joined the pocket knife community? This line is uttered about three times a day in my household.
I’m adding a parallel comment addressing your edit.
Is this the part where I finally get to say, “Do you know who I am?” I’ve been waiting years for that one.
Ah, now I see. It all makes sense now.
Usually I don’t look at usernames and thought I found your soulmate.
So many shelves!
I studied the blade
You collect knife boxes, and you have them filled with knives just so they’re not empty.
I never quite wrapped my mind around knife/flashlight collecting. I have one of each that I EDC and I did quite a bit research to find the ones I like the best (Benchmade Bugout and Wurkkos TS22 - both in green). Carrying anything else would mean leaving home the one I like the most which doesn’t make any sense.
I don’t judge. It’s just one of those things I have no theory of mind for.
To each their own. I mean, some people collect spoons of all things.
Spoons. Not knives. Madness. (Next you’re telling me it’ll be forks.)
I can’t really wrap my head around collecting anything, be it knives, Pokémon cards, video games, or classic cars.
Maybe the closest thing I have to a collection is seeds, but I plant those to grow stuff. Is that a collection? Maybe! I guess you’re not disqualified for using the things in your collection.
I collect cool rocks.
Maybe collecting is a mental illness.
There have been times when I’ve thought that but I think the test has to be based on how much it affects or doesn’t affect the rest of your life. If you’re spending huge amounts of time and money on it while the rest of your life and relationships suffer, it’s probably an issue. If it’s mostly a hobby that occupies a reasonable portion of your life, it’s fine.
It does bother me though that some collecting hobbies seem to be mostly about spending money and trying to achieve a complete set rather than a mixture of stuff of collecting, repairing, researching, and visiting people, and going to shows etc. I’m all about variety in life though, so that may be a personal bias of mine.
No, those are all necessary.
I got like 15 different sharpening stones. We should hang out sometime.
I suspect that would result in a lot of sharpened knives.
Lol. Oh for sure. Knife and straight razor sharpening has been my hobby for the past 30 years. My daily driver EDC is currently a red Microtech Ultratech knife and an Olight ArkPro in zombie green.
Gabe is that you?
USB power banks.
It’s just so useful to just have another one to grab when the one you’re using runs out, and let that one charge in the meanwhile. I can also just take two in my bag and never run dry.
More than two would be unnecessary, but two just makes good sense.
Nail clippers. I kept losing nail clippers so I bought a pack of 10 and put two in each of the places I’d expect to be able to find them. I think I’m down to only having four now, so it might be time to buy another 10.
Other people have sock monsters, you seem to have a nail-clipper monster.
I know. No other logical explanation!
Thinkpads. I’m not sure one can ever have enough of them tho.
Headphones. I have my commuting headphones, walking headphones, working headphones, video game headphones, music headphones… I also have two pairs of earphones.
I could get down to two pairs of headphones and one pair of earphones.
I have some bone conducting headphones for just about everything, a pair of ear buds for everything else. Generally I’m wearing ear protection with my headphones and what type I want determines which headphones I’m wearing.
I have multiple of the bone conducting ones. The main ones. The backup ones for when I forget them. The backup backup ones that was two generations ago and the microphone crapped out on that lives in my desk at work in case I forgot the backup ones.
Function button but same.
I have a few different wireless earbuds for different uses and devices, and like 5 sets of headphones because they all have different sounds/uses as well. I definitely understand this ridiculous!
Yup. I have way too many headphones because I wanted to hear the different sound signatures. 90% of the time I’m either listening to my AirPods Pro or Grado SR325s. The other 10% is Koss PortaPro. Why do I have so many headphones?
Forks.
Scissors.
Don’t need to use them every day, but previously I could never find any of the three pairs I had. Then I realized that I have money and can go buy a dozen pairs of scissors.
Now it never takes me more than 30 seconds to find a pair of scissors. 10/10, would recommend this lifestyle.
I have four copies of Skyrim and haven’t even played it.
I have seven coffee makers (various sorts, sizes, and materials). I use 3 regularly.
More generally, anything that I use frequently, like tools, I have multiples of because I misplace things a lot. Having multiples means it’s more likely to find things when I need them, without having to hunt them down.

Mental ‘challenges.’
Trust me, I didn’t start this life with a desire to acquire so many (if any.)
Some of them were “gifts” from my parents. (Relatable post)
-
Common handtools. I have at least 2 - 3 of each. One set in my work truck and another in the toolshed. What can I say - I’m a sucker for tools.
-
Traditional hatchets. If I see an old hand-made axe head for sale with or without a handle for a decent price I’ll buy it because they’re not making more of them. I’ll gladly sell/hand over one to who ever needs, appreciates and promises to look after one.
-
Bikes. I don’t sell the old when I buy new one. It’s worth more to me as a bike than as the money I’d get from it.
-
Hand carts. I don’t know how I ended up with two but here we are.
Can relate to the hatchets. I love love love my Gränsfors hatchet and axe! Still trying to find a reason to buy another one!
If I see an old hand-made axe head for sale with or without a handle for a decent price I’ll buy it because they’re not making more of them.
Doing a quick search, I see multiple companies that say that they hand-make axeheads. Now, it’s probably cheaper to get them secondhand, but I don’t think that the supply of new ones will run dry, as a business making handmade axeheads probably doesn’t see a lot of economy of scale.
https://www.lehmans.com/category/axes
We specialize in offering professionally hand-forged axes by makers who have been in the business for decades, so you find the last wood-cutting axe or wood hatchet you ever buy.
Looking at the brands they’re selling:
Gränsfors Bruk, Sweden.
Snow & Nealley, Maine, US.
Hults Bruk, Sweden.
Lehmans, US. “The letter is the last initial of blacksmith who tempered the axe.”, says that the axe is “Maine made”, the handle is made by “an Amish family a few miles from our store”, that the steel comes “from New York”, but doesn’t explicitly say where the blacksmith is.
I was refering to traditional Finnish vintage axes specifically - not hand made ones broadly. Billnäs, Kellokoski and Fiskars for example. Those are no longer being made.
Ah, gotcha.
