I love the smell of primaries in the morning. Smells like, victory.

7·9 天前Discord is a vocal opponent of the laws requiring this stuff and helps the legal fights trying to stop this from becoming mandatory by law. My impression is they are doing what they think they legally have to in a growing number of countries and states.

" Discord is a member of Netchoice, the trade organization that’s fighting these laws in the US, and they’ve shown up for pretty much every lawsuit since they joined. I can’t say for certain[1] but I HIGHLY doubt they are doing this because they want to. "

Hardly, the use of based this way is cringe.

(Internet slang, originally 4chan slang) Admirable for rejecting political correctness or socially progressive values. Synonym: unwoke based and redpilled My last account got banned for being too based.

memes@lemmy.world•Google Chrome must be coerced into adopting standards
1·21 天前That they don’t care wouldn’t be my take, but it may be true for some.
It is true it is hard to get the incentives right, especially if your goal is to make things that don’t get abandoned.
They do a lot of experimentation though, trying to see what works.
I think “what works” and “what users want” are two similar, intersecting but not at all identical sets. Some users like new and broken, others want things that will never work.
I am curious what kind of people do you try to hire, and what do you screen for? I mainly just try to gauge someone’s experience in the field, and ability to to fit a specific role. (I have mostly been involved in Android app dev or related interviews).
I ask things like “how do you solve this common problem”. A goal for me is to try to give basically the same interview over and over again, to make it easier to compare candidates. But over the years it changes of course.

memes@lemmy.world•Google Chrome must be coerced into adopting standards
1·22 天前Sometimes Google seems so obsessed with open standards that they not only don’t favor their other projects, their projects often simply won’t support each other.
I blame the many Google buzz plus chat clients. Google also suffers from a lot of success, they can be complacent about things other companies obsess about.
This is where I mention that for many, the border crossed them:

And the US was not great about it’s treaty obligations, especially with regards to property rights.

6·1 个月前It is very much about finding what works for each individual. It is understood different students learn best different ways.
I got a bunch of audio books and ebooks from HumbleBundle. I consumed the audio books first, and am going through the ebooks slower. Audio books were wonderful when driving or doing yard or house work. I would sometime have to rewind and repeat.
Ebooks required my focus so I haven’t found myself consuming them nearly as quickly.
The line is used in a memorable scene in the first movie :)

Exactly. Ring Species are a good example
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_species
In biology, a ring species is a connected series of neighbouring populations, each of which interbreeds with closely sited related populations, but for which there exist at least two end populations in the series which are too distantly related to interbreed, though there is a potential gene flow between linked neighbouring populations.

It still seems pretty random. So they’ll say they fixed it so it won’t do something, all they likely did was reduce probability, so we still get screenshots showing what it sometimes lets through.
