The state lawmaker leads his opponent by four percentage points, 47% to 43%
State Rep. James Talarico is beating Rep. Jasmine Crockett in Texas’ Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll.
The survey was shared by JT Ennis, a spokesman for Talarico. It showed that the lawmaker had a 4-point advantage before his interview with Stephen Colbert, which stirred controversy after not being aired on the late show television. Talarico claimed it was the Trump administration who blocked the airing of the interview and called it “the most dangerous kind of cancel culture.”
Conducted by Impact Research among 800 likely voters in the Democratic primary, the survey showed Talarico getting 47% of the support, compared to Crockett’s 43%. 9% of respondents said they were undecided.
In the primary campaign your opposition is Jack Hopeful, a member of your own party. Never forget that you will need the support of all your party after the primary and never let your supporters forget it!
This is a very touchy, difficult matter, particularly in a volunteer organization. You are certain to have loyal supporters who are simple souls, unable to think in terms other than black and white. To them Jack Hopeful is the ENEMY - they will commit excesses through misguided zeal. So also will some of Mr. Hopeful’s supporters. Bad blood breeds more bad blood; in short order you can have a situation which is completely out of hand, which splits the party wide open, and which will render it impossible for your man to win in the finals.
Since the nomination is valueless in itself, being merely a necessary means to an end, you must prevent this at all costs.

Have heard Talarico speak twice now. Both times he had practically the same story, with practically the same intonation on words. Sounded very rehearsed, inauthentic to be honest.
I’m not an American, nor obviously am I from Texas, but I’ve heard of Crockett, and she’s had some decent exchanges in the house in the past from what I recall. I imagine, between the two, I’d have more confidence that she’d be a more vocal/active/progressive democrat – whereas Talarico almost feels like a Republican in Democrat clothing.
Vote vote vote vote up and down the ballot
Is that the milktoast Christian centrist who went on Colbert?
Anyone claiming Talarico is a centrist is intentionally smearing him or unaware of his performance in Texas and his platform for his Senate run.

He’s not a Democratic Socialist, but he is the closest thing to it that could come out of Texas. Jasmine Crockett is arguably farther right than he is. More importantly, most polling predicts that Talarico has the better chance against Cornyn (incumbent). However, odds are nearly the same for both candidates against Paxton.
That said, the most interesting part of this whole thing is that Republicans are boosting Crockett. She’s their pick to run against Cornyn. Do they think she can win but would be easier to control than Talarico? Do they think it’s a guarantee for Cornyn? Whatever the case, Trump thinks her nomination would be a gift to the GOP.
His website says nothing about dismantling the nuclear arsenal, which is the greatest threat to all life on earth.
His website says nothing about establishing a carbon tax or banning the burning of fossil fuels, which is the second most threat to all life on earth. In fact, he says he wants to build more fossil fuel infrastructure!
His website doesn’t say anything about stopping the Israeli genocide. In fact, he legitimizes the Israeli terrorist State, and says he wants to disarm the Palestinian government while continuing to provide Iron Dome to the Israelis (note he doesn’t say give Iron Dome to the Palestines, who are the victims of genocide from their neighbors).
He also seems to be pretty hostile to undocumented immigrants. And he seems to oppose abolition (he actually says we should give more money [“resources”] to police!)
Thanks, I was wrong. He seems to be right of center.
He’s running for a Senate seat in Texas and needs to beat a beloved lifetime Republican incumbent. Only a child wants everything all at once.
Don’t let the fascists drag you to the right.
Electing someone right of center is not acceptable.

Milquetoast, and you are correct.
Long as they help promote each other after this election, it is good for them to compete. IMO, a good election is like a good game show: it gathers people together, and makes them feel excited about the possibilities. We need that energy from our good politicians, it makes people say “these folks can do stuff!”
Whoever wins this election, should help their opposite number get into a high office. Simple as that.
Just saw another poll yesterday, giving Crockett a double digit lead. You can’t trust polls, you have to vote.
Never trust polls! Go vote!
Anyone got a link to these candidates platform websites?
Weird. Yesterday’s polls had Crockett ahead by 12 points.
Kamala Harris also just endorsed Jasmine Crockett yesterday.
So, uh… take that as you will.
I think a lot of those polls predate the FCC meddling which gave Talarico a lot of coverage and support. This might be the first port Colbert poll.
Yup. After re-reading the article I read yesterday, that’s exactly what happened. The one I was thinking of, was taken just before his interview with Colbert.
There aren’t a lot of polls for this race, but there was a recent one that had Talarico at +12. Here’s a polling average

Was it the same poll, or a different one?
I read about it here.
But, after reading it again, it does say this poll was taken just before Talarico’s interview with Stephen Colbert aired. I guess not many people knew about him before that. That’s quite a boost.
Streisand effect strikes again
I’ve been very supportive of him. I truly hope he’s the real deal and don’t get burned like we did with Sinema or Fetterman. What he says is dead-on.
What’s his most progressive agenda item?
I just can’t with religious people any more. If they fervently believe in that stuff what other nonsense have they bought in to?
That’s the sad reality right now though. To reach the crazies you need people who can get to them. The way things are, they see every outside criticism as invalid and unimportant. You need someone who can cut across that.
You need someone who can cut across that.
That’s not him though. He could be the most pure, righteous, moral person on the planet but if there’s a D next to his name the crazies aren’t going to even consider voting for him.
Fuck MLK, right?
What about him do you like more than Jasmine? She’s a fuckin firecracker. I love her. Never heard of this other dude.
Jasmine Crockett being better / more aggressive in a debate doesn’t make her better on policy. She’s the establishment choice in this primary, an AIPAC-compromised ghoul with a snazzy coat of paint. Roasting Republicans with sick burns on fox news doesn’t wash the Palestinian blood from her hands, and she’ll keep up the appearance of fighting while caving at every opportunity to corporate interests.
He says Israel has committed war crimes. Crockett has said that Hamas committed war crimes, but I have never heard her actually say that Israel has committed war crimes. She’s aggressive, but what does she actually stand for?
She’s kicking journalists that she doesn’t like out of her campaign events like Trump would. Is that what we’re supposed to like now?
I do, or did too. But I frankly like how Talarico packages his points much better and in a way that reaches “moderate” or Independent swing-voters more effectively.
I also saw Crockett took a $25k trip paid for by AIPAC and that’s a deal-breaker alone for me. Though Talarico took took money from Adelson’s pac before he went viral, it seems that was related to casinos. Both imperfect, I guess.
Watch some of his recent speeches, or the videos that made him viral this past year. He has fully embraced the Fight Oligarchy strategy of AOC and Sanders.
I have an instinctual dislike for any candidate that is an enthusiastic religion freak. I also like Crockett a lot. So it seems like my choice would be easy, but it isn’t.
Democrats have been getting closer and closer to winning with every Senate election. Republicans used to win by double digits, now they are barely winning by very small margins. Beto O’Rourke probably could have won, if he hadn’t stupidly gone on the radio, and arrogantly declared that he would take their guns. In Texas. He might as well have taken one of those guns and shot himself. I wasn’t shocked he lost after that, I expected a blow out loss, but I didn’t expect how close he would still come.
If Beto could get that close after announcing his gun confiscation dreams, then a proper candidate could probably win it. So in TEXAS, which candidate can realistically flip that seat, the white preacher, or the loud black lady?
Viewed through the lens of the average Texas voter, the choice seems obvious.
I’m split evenly on them. Republicans want Crockett because she’s a woman and black and they think that’ll make it easy or something. I think she’s a more dominant opponent to the Republican party in sheer strength. Her rhetoric hits like a sack of nickels. Debating her would be terrifying.
Talarico on the other hand is a bigger threat to Christian nationalism. Thats what I think they ® fear in him. He is a very mild mannered, straight white Christian man. He knows the Bible and he is politely reminding Christians that the Jesus in the Bible would have never worn a maga hat, and would have opposed those that do.
So I see why Republicans prefer Crocket, but I think it’s bad news for them either way.
We need to give Mr. Talarico a helmet to prevent concussions, TBIs, or IDK brainworms or something.
Now the media engineering starts. Polls, sure. “Science” at it’s best.
that’s a shame, we have enough christian white men in the senate.
While I understand the point you are trying to make, Talarico is not the problem. He’s a genuine, solid candidate that functions based on empathy and love. I have been impressed any time I watch his speeches.
I think he’s got a real chance of flipping Texas blue. He’s a much stronger pick than Crockett against Cornyn or Paxton, whichever ends up their pick, which is why GOP really wants to see Crockett win this primary.
I’m not an american but afaik black woman is not winning Texas, at least for the next 30 years. That state is legitimately brain damaged.
it’s just gerrymandered to hell
Gerrymandering doesn’t apply in a state-wide election. Voter suppression does though.
Plus he does not take AIPAC
It should speak volumes that nothing scares the GOP and the FCC more than someone from Texas preaching actual Christian values on national television instead of using the bible as a weapon for hate.
And is one left side so double supported
Concentrating on the person’s sex, race and/or religion plays into the right wing victimization bs.
I know it wasn’t your point, but I’d like to add that when some rightoid inevitably tries to give the impression they care about “a black woman being held back” and how racist the Democrats are it’s imperative we ignore them. They’re only trying to use our empathy against us with superficial grievances.
He actually believes in the teachings of Jesus. Which most “Christians” dont.
And there really isn’t anything to criticize about Jesus’s teachings.
Also Crockett supports Israel genocide . So. That’s a problem.
I think her stance on Israel is more complicated than that.

They’re both good candidates; neither is perfect, but it’s refreshing to have a hard time choosing tbh. We need more folks like this to get in these races.
She takes AIPAC money. That’s a lobbying group for the genocidal party in charge of a foreign state. There’s no way to wash that stink off once you’ve cashed the check.
She actually has not taken AIPAC money, nor has she received an endorsement from them. I’d suggest that you do a little research before you start throwing accusations around but you know, you do you, baby!
Sure no one is perfect but there really isn’t anything to criticize about talerico except he’s super pro gambling.
She took indirect aipac money and went on a trip there. And has stated Israel will always be funded by the u.s.
She also denies the genocide.
Oh and has voted yes to send Israel money every time she was asked to vote on it.
Even if she hasn’t taken direct aipac money, this doesn’t absolve her of the other problems. She also takes money from super pacs. A lot. So. Billionaires also own her.
The other guy has an imaginary friend that lives in the sky and we have to believe that it tells him to do good things.
No one’s perfect.
We don’t have enough democrats with the right stance on Palestine though.
So primary out the ones who are on the wrong side. The rest will soon get the message.
Hopefully that’s what is happening in this race.
It certainly seems to be how it’s shaking out in Kat Abughazaleh’s race.
This video is like watching yesterday and tomorrow on the same stage.
🤦 That dude with no values in the middle continually trying to land the flipped coin on its edge…and the Republican-lite lady on the end trying to clarify the questions to see how much genocide she is being asked to support.
Hopefully Kat wins.
