On X, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he had moved to label Anthropic as a "supply chain risk" and cancel further Defense business with the company.

As much as I give Anthropic flak, at least they did something to make a stand against use of their tech that was too bad. Meanwhile, OpenAI, the company that says their “mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity” gladly tells the U.S. military “do whatever the fuck you want with our models as long as we get paid.”

I doubt that Anthropic actually cares, they just dont want the bad PR. If the feds had asked quietly in a way that doesnt leave public traces, im sure they probably would have complied.

Including domestic mass surveillance on their own engineers.

That’s the bonkers thing to me. At least someone at Anthropic had the wherewithal to say “wait…are be building a thing to spy on ourselves at home 24/7?” OpenAI was so thirsty. “Spy on me, Daddy! Watch my every move, let me show you how!”

Yikes. Basically any company that does business with the government can’t use Anthropic. That’s a very big problem that will likely go to court.

Microsoft does business with anthropic, it’s baked into multiple parts of copilot already.

This is going to get messy.

It won’t. The tech is far too useful.

As someone who does government work sometimes, I’ll continue to use Anthropic and the gubment can fuck off.

Lol, they won’t. But don’t worry - after they fail the American taxpayer will have to pay the bail out regardless

Ah, so the most unprincipled of the lot (also unprofitable) get to cozy up to the Pentagon…I’m sure that will end well for all of us.

I am sure that OpenAI, the Pentagon, Altman, Trump and Hegseth will utilise this technology very responsibly
