My 10 year account got banned for voicing criticism of the fascist State of Israel
What got you banned?
I wasn’t banned, but I rolled over after 3rd party apps were taken away on the day they stopped working. I only use the app for it so taking that away made it pretty easy to stop and no i wasnt going to use their own because they forced my hand. Apps were limited on lemmy at that time and had to wait like 4 months before the one i used to use was released, but it was worth it.
Same. I was a Lurker+, reading a lot of content and discussion but only contributing and commenting to a few smaller / local subreddits.
Set up an RSS Feed for sports & my local subreddit (from old.reddit.com) and started using Lemmy in my browser. Now I use Boost. Haven’t logged back into reddit since.
It works for my wants.
I also use Boost. Love it and no need to look at any others IMO.
me too, thanks.
Reddit didn’t ban me, I banned them.
You… I like you!
After Reddit cut off api access to third-party apps, I left. Well, not right away, I did give RedReader a try for a month or so.
Basically the same for me. After they squashed the counter protests I decided “fuck them”.
20 year old account with probably 10k karma. Not much by today’s standards, but I gave it my best.
does karma mean anything? I got more from a single bad joke on a popular community
on reddit, its apparently makes your account more reliable as an actual user, so you wont get banned very easily. that is the theory, and does hold true to a certain point. reddit does detect/notice organic karma gain, and the ones that farm karma. and some subs require a certain amount of karma to engage in.
I always interpreted it as the number of people whose day I made slightly better. That’s a nice feeling.
Banned? No. Other way around. I banned reddit from my devices after the API fiasco.
there is a way, but its much more convoluted. different IP/device and browser is the usual method, as long as you are not repeating the same exact pattern as before. but why spend that money anyways, the only people that do are the ones using reddit to drive traffic to thier own sites/OF agency, of whom reddit is constantly playing cat and mouse in detecting them. i also have supsicion reddit preferentially dont ban aggresively against propaganda bots as much as the ones i mentioned above.
Banned for using a VPN for “ban evasion” but never had been banned before.
Appealed. No response.
I took that as a fuck off message.
reddit seems to have banned vpn use since early 2024.
This is why I’m wary of the lemmy user base, a combination of individuals who have been banned from reddit and/or think they’re too good for reddit.
You do realize how easy it is to get banned from reddit, since the IPO dropped, yes?
I was there for 14 years and 50 weeks and got sniped within 30 seconds of dropping a post that was critical of Stephen Miller.
I got banned from Twitter after a decade and a dozen posts for calling out an insurrectionist three weeks before January 6th, using his own couched language of violence and corruption. (I grew up in the 1970’s and knew damn well what he was saying)
Going back even further, I got banned from the old ABC news forums in 2004 for pointing out that it was in fact, the unfair economic policies of the rich, that was the main reason that many women were starting to opt out of motherhood.
Some of us just got bumped for speaking uncomfortable truths about the consequences of unchecked power.
I consider it proof positive that I’ve been seeing things clearly for the last… oh… 45 years.
Being banned from Reddit is honestly a badge of honor for the most part lol
I will not disagree with that one iota.
You do realize how easy it is to get banned from reddit, since the IPO dropped, yes?
No clue - I had the good sense to leave well before the IPO.
Smart. On many occasions I had gotten auto-banned from subs I never had even heard of because I’d randomly poasted on a sub that hit r/all and I’d thrown in my 2 cents on a comment. At that point, I should have seen the 'bot-storm heading in, but just stuck it out because of inertia on the site - mine - and the IPO sort of codified the weening “squeeky clean, sanitized for our ad revenue” behavior. Should have left then, but again… inertia and stuck around until the robo-ban waves started rolling in and I got caught in one.
LOL! I honestly don’t miss it. Am on old.lemmy.zip and have the same kind of comms I’m subbed to here and there and it’s fine. It’s actually kinda nice here - like reddit was at the start.
a lot of people have been falsely banned, but a lot of other people, from what ive seen, have been banned for legitimate reasons
Lemmy users feel way more aggressive than reddit users (at least from my experience) even though most of them used to be reddit users
I feel the aggressiveness here often tempers in time. God knows the rage-bots on Reddit seemed to keep it all spun up on certain subs, esp. the political ones.
It’s nice not to have that constant “poking the bear” shit happening here…
on reddit, i generally avoided political subs(other than a general community for my country) so i have not seen any rage bots
“You don’t go to the Nazi bar? What, you think you’re better than them?”
I think I’m too good for reddit, why don’t you?
There’s certainly much, much more volatility here. Some people genuinely wrongfully banned; some… Less stable folks I think, “yeah you know what, you probably deserved the ban.”
its probably the ones that fall in with the tankies/conservatives, they kinda deserved it. things like reporting people, if the mod doesnt like it you “are overreoporting” ban. i also visit some of mod help sub, and they are glad these filters in place so they dont have to work to verify a justified ban.
Lemmy is very reminiscent of early Reddit and 4chan in certain ways.
I decided to be the change I wanted to see here instead.
I got banned in 2022 when I called out Russian fake news. Apparently to an admin and they took that personally. 12 year old account with no prior bans at all. Poof, just like that.
Yeah I feel better than that shit hole and so should you. Reddit isn’t for the people that made the site big anymore.
Banned from Reddit, must be a terrorist /S
I assume everyone is too good for reddit, until they prove otherwise.
So clearly the next topic in this community should be, “How many of you have never been on reddit?”
We are too good for reddit. At least the way reddit is now.
deleted by creator
Interesting, why do you worry about that combo?
I came here after the Reddit API mess but still posted on Reddit.
Got a temporary Reddit ban for a short statement saying Biden was caught genociding, then recently a permanent ban for saying the only way Trump is leaving office is if 100,000 people drag him out. “Inciting violence.”
303,000 comment karma, 8,388 post karma, 14+ years.
Going corporate is never good.
I got ‘soft banned’.
I had stopped commenting on Reddit back in 2022 after receiving warnings on similar topics. Continued to lurk and scroll. Now reddit has an uncloseable popup on web telling me to use the app. So I don’t use reddit.
you would get banned if you logged in after a period of inactivity, i think many users noticed they got shadowbanned after using old accounts that went dormant and then suddenly became active. reddit was and still doing this since last year. allegedly its combat bot users who did the same method. it was noticed by a forum i visited on reddit bans/evasions.
I didn’t get banned. I left after the API change. I was already reducing use naturally, and what time I did still spend there was mostly to mod a very small niche hobby sub.
Without the mod tools I used before the API changes, plus the influx of MAGA-bots on reddit as a whole, I could longer mod the sub in a way the community asked for and that I was comfortable with. So I resigned, wished the remaining mods well, and went about my way.
There were other subs trying to go dark and impact reddit’s advertising opportunities, and reddit was banning some of the mods doing that sort of thing. I decided even if reddit changed course, I was past the point I could ever come back to it.
There was so many good apps before the Big Ban. Still hurts.
Dito, not banned, but left with the API change as well. Still keep RIF on my phone just so that if anyone sends me a redditink I get a 401:forbidden and have to reevauate if I actually give a shit enough to view it in a browser. The actual app is just as bad as ticktok when it comes to nicking every data point that isnt nailed down.
No ban, it just reached a threshold of enshittification where I said “enough is enough” and left.
Left reddit in the api blockage
Now I spend my days shit chatting with MLs
I just stopped using it. No ban necessary.
I did get one or two temporary bans some years ago. First time was for criticizing their censorship. The second time was for sending the middle finger emoji to Spez.
I’m not going to go out of my way to delete my dead user or posts or anything. It’s not my problem. Quite frankly, I just don’t give a shit about their site.
Not banned but forced to use their shit app. They shut down Reddit is Fun, fuck them
Same here, I still have RIF installed too just so I can look at the icon and be sad.
I was sitewide banned for criticizing war thunder owner Gaijin on their own subreddit by saying they are biased to make russian vehicles always perform better than other nations at the same battle rating.
As far as I understood from others it’s because subreddit mods have the power to sitewide ban… For some ridiculous reason. And in this case nobody at Reddit gave a damn or dared confront someone as big as Gaijin for someone as little as me.
Edit: at least I think that’s why. Reddit bans are ambiguous as fuck. I remember trying to figure out why exactly but the message was similar to “banned because you broke tos” or some bullshit like that, with no link to an actual comment.
Reddit does seem to give subreddit mods a good deal of credit in their flags of users.
But a lot of it is dishonest, if you get traction criticizing a powerful group, they will find an unrelated reason to ban you. Because we have no rights to fair enforcement of the rules, they don’t have to bother to make their accusations believable.
Israel is the main one I’m familiar with that they do this for, but all sorts of other stuff too.
Oh yea. If you as much as bring up the word goy you get shadowbanned immediatelly afaik.
This is not a banned users refuge.
